What's this '42 story 375 unit' project across the street from Evo?

I believe this is what was supposed to go there, pre-recession:

I'm aware of that, but the site doesn't work on my device Plus, it's more interesting to see the progress from the ground with clear images.

You mean 8th and Grand?

And how does a project which was announced today have zero chance of being built?

Exactly my thought. Does the LA Times know something we don't?

I'm confused as to what they are giving the community here. They are walling it off? If you are being sarcastic, it all looks very temporary to me.

Not sure if you're confusing the former angelena proj, once owned by Astani, with the current devlprs. The parking lot south of 7th & grand, next to the brockman bldg, is now owned by a company based in SF.

this is the image that went with the article linked to by socalkid above...

I find the other developments much more interesting anyways. Which is why I bring this thread consistent, massive, clear, images (along with real information seen with my own eyes).
I totally agree. since the broad & marriott projs have their own webcams, I'm not quite so curious about seeing progress pics of them. But the photos you're taking are among the most helpful & worthwhile ones posted to this thread. It takes more work & bit more snooping to come up with the shots you've done, esp of the clark hotel, so I really welcome seeing them here.

that photo isn't from the LA times, but from astani's company. So it wouldn't be too surprising if a devlpr has some inside info on what other property owners may be dreaming up. They have to track the competition, & also know how other projs may help or hurt their own projs.

hunterk, I became somewhat less confident in the timeline when the proj was bought by a firm based in the bay area. I may be wrong, & I hope I am, but I have a suspicion that since they're outsiders, they'll be taking a more leisurely path in actually starting groundbreaking on their proj.

The ultimate example of non locals going super slow in finishing their work is the owner of the clark hotel & ambassador auditorium bldg. However, locals who control bldgs & land in dt also have acted like absentee landlords too. So there's plenty of blame to go around.

And I'm not just putting on a smiley face when I say you're one of the few forumers in this thread who I recall as taking the type of shots you've done. I think it's cuz others aren't quite as interested in the smaller improvements, and cuz it does take a bit more effort to snap shots behind construction walls & of anything that isn't very new & very obvious.

however, I don't understand why you or anyone else is disappointed when a new proj isn't going to be a very tall tower, or more than 7 or 8 stories...esp if it's in the peripheral part of the hood. I say that cuz when I was in south pk a few months ago, the need to finally fill up all the gaps around there....& noticing how many deadzones still exist in that area....really stood out to me like a sore thumb.

You're not the only one, but nobody knows anything about what's going on with hotel clark because that's how its owners operate. Here's one article on them. http://www.ladowntownnews.com/news/to-ha...deaf58e-168c-530c-8735-f8cb9a572d39.html
I suspect the Hotel Clark is getting renovated out of someone's cash flow rather than with a construction loan. No lender would tolerate these constant stops and starts over an extended period of time.

So.... it is actually beneficial to the community. That's nice. I'm sure the park won't be that elaborate, though, being that it's temporary.

Well the only other thing planned on that site is tower 2 and it apparently won't go up for several years so it'll be there a while =P

Well..no one wants to take pictures of buildings that show no signs of visual progress. Buildings like Hotel Clark and the Embassy are such mysteries, I won't be interested in either one until there is some sort of constant stream of activity.
