...which should give you an idea of how significant this project is going to be.

All three of those listed, plus scotia square, highly impacted Halifax's skyline. Compare this to the Waterfront Center or the Vic which, although they look very nice (and at least with the Vic, the design beats the — out of Scotia Square), don't impact the skyline all that significantly.

This will, as will the new convention center (and you know, probably the new Library as well).

Yes, this project is about four times the size of the Vic. To date it's also been a remarkably quick development. There were rumours of it being contemplated a year or two ago and now there are cranes on site.

I think these towers will create a nice layered backdrop for buildings like Purdy's Wharf. More importantly they'll also bring a lot of new activity to the Brunswick Street area. It will be interesting to see how much of a spinoff effect there is in nearby areas like Gottingen, and how much pedestrian traffic will increase along Brunswick.

Photo by me from today. Brunswick was shut down due to a gas main leak at the time.

Thanks for your timely updates.

It looks like the apartment building will start to rise soon. Has a colour rendering been released?

Here's the rendering:

Actually the corner of the podium is not far off from its final size. It looks like a Vancouver design. I would have preferred something in the 4-8 floor range.

What's the general consensus amongst Haligonians regarding the design? I'm not sure its an improvement on what its replacing.

People are pleased we're getting three new buildings. In terms of design, it is a slight improvement.

We haven't seen many details for the residential building, furthest to the left in the above rendering; however, the coloured balconies it will apparently sport are an emerging trend in Halifax.

Architecturally they are not exceptional but they will probably be a lot better in terms of bringing in new people and businesses and making the area more inviting to pedestrians. The old buildings were smaller, set behind parking lots, did not include any apartments, and didn't have any storefronts as far as I know. The new buildings are also good because they contribute toward the re-integration of North End and Cogswell land. Cogswell needs new buildings eventually but it's also important to make sure that the existing land around the interchange is developed in a compatible, pedestrian-friendly way. Right now if Cogswell were somehow rebuilt overnight it would still suffer from being surrounded mostly by blank walls and parking.

They are okay...but could be better. But an improvement from the use/density of the site previously.

Great picture. I suddenly started wondering what the Town Clock looks like inside the building. Has anyone bring inside? There doesn't appear to be much interior space but it would be interesting to see the clock mechanism.

Iv seen the top part inside with the mechanism on the CBC, looked very basic with exposed wood walls. I would be very interested in seeing what the lower levels look like.

I remember going inside once when I was pretty young, all I really remember is that it had a sort of classroom/theatre where someone gave a lesson on different types of smooth-bore cannon ammo that would have been used in Halifax.
