I don't think it is being bitchy too want more. I love our downtown and want better for it. I agree with Viking that it is not the best looking and from the ( I know very preliminary renderings) looks like an energy hog. Is it bad to want good looking and environmentally sensitive? That said I would take it over nothing. Works for my downtown.

Sister Macnamara school is at the corner of sargent and kennedy. Fort rouge school is on river ave close to main I think. i would say one or the other is within walking distance of anywhere downtown. Also there's Argyle high school in the exchange (I don't think that's a traditional highschool though).

No clue about 24 hour pharmacies outside of shoppers on Osborne.

I like that you took my remark in the literal sense.

My point was more the fact that this is not a complete neighbourhood. WSD1 recommends Fort Rouge School or Norquay School for elementary; for high school they recommend Gordon Bell and Daniel Mac. None of these schools are within what I would consider downtown, nor are they in what the City considers downtown.

Being satisfied with how development is going in downtown breeds complacency and mediocrity. I agree with vellakaran -- I don't want a mediocre downtown, I want a great downtown. Sorry for asking for more.

I think you'll be waiting a long long time for a school in downtown, outside of what's available in Centennial, West End, St. Boniface, Osborne Village, or Wolseley.

The province has a long waiting list for schools and as it is is considering larger regional schools instead of neighborhood schools.

666 Main is quite an interesting building, especially on the interior. All tin panels on every side. Predates the adjacent Bell Hotel by 20 years. In fact the Bell is built on top of it. Have a look at the party wall. That won't be easy to knock down

Sure it will. It's been done in Thunder Bay a few times. You simply leave up that wall, and knock down the rest of the building.

I am pretty sure that fencing has been there for a while because vaguely remember having to walk around a fence when 1ajs pointed out the Bell Hotel in June.

That's because the local credit unions seem to prefer hiring local architects rather than picking cookie cutter branch designs from a Toronto catalog.

Nope, the top and bottom are Northern Sky Architecture.

I know both these buildings very well.

NiceTV! I think Sunova used the same design for a few of their buildings though. The one in Oakbank is the same "look" as the city one.

Assiniboine CU ones are unique and all nice!
