Speaking of which, I've been to TO several times, but never got around to seeing the lakefront west of downtown. I know east of downtown there is the beaches (which as a Montrealer I found really great - I mean a water source serving a leisurely purpose in the core). Anything similar west of downtown?

There are small beaches and a pedestrian/bike path running all the way to Etobicoke. None of the beaches are as big as the ones in the east though.
To the west: Sunnyside Pavilion sits at the lakefront terminus of High Park and used to have a Coney Island type vibe to it. Tens of thousands of Torontonians would flock there. When the Gardiner Expressway was built, the park was severed from the pavilion and the lake and the whole area died. Sunnyside Pavilion still stands and is just out of frame in that ZensLens photo.
