Drove around town today and found that there's a decent amount of home construction going on in Millidgeville currently. I didn't get photos of most but I did get photos of the two most interesting:

Large development on Forbes Drive:

Development on Arlington Crescent:

Homes were being constructed on Tudor Lane, Noel Avenue, and Fieldstone Drive. These are ongoing as well as the development on Somerset & Technology and the large clearing ongoing on Millidge Avenue. All of these are infill and something that this part of town can definitely handle. Hopefully the clearing on Millidge is some commercial infill.

It was indeed a canal; if you keep following the line on the map one way or the other, you can see traces of it all the way to the coastlines.

It's been awhile since I read about it, but essentially it was a project to connect the two bodies of water with a narrow canal for small craft, but it was abandoned for a number of reasons and only traces of it remain.

Here's a little piece of it visible from the road on street view: http://goo.gl/maps/qrW53

If you zoom out you can see that it runs from one body of water to the other as a narrow line and has largely been filled in by construction and erosion.

Interesting starting point for information on the Chignecto Marine Transport Railway: http://www.novascotiaparks.ca/brochures/TidnishDock04.pdf

All photos by myself from today.

Uptown from Fort Howe (including Harbourfront Condos)

Typical Uptown money shot.

Completed Apartments on Second Street. Subsidized and non-profit AFAIK.

Rockwood Hills Apartment construction

Site Plan for Rockwood Hills.

Apartment complex construction on Noel Avenue.

Millidge Avenue continued lot clearing

Apartments on Somerset & Technology. Moving slowly.

And my personal favourite

Forbes Drive construction. This is either an apartment building or a church. Not really sure. There's more land cleared to the right of this photo and up from where I was photographing there were more lots cleared.

Great photos!
What's with that bland brick tower thing on the cruise terminal and why does it have no windows?? I'm guessing it's a stairwell, but still. It's a pretty prominent feature of the building; you would have thought it would get some special architectural treatment. Also green cap on top looks a bit small. A clock or a banner and some lighting or a LED screen would spruce up those bare brick walls. I take it they're not finished yet.

I believe there is supposed to be a clock; someone was wondering about it just a few posts ago.

Good photo update. I don't get to see as much as the city as I used to, so I had no idea some of that stuff was going on.

I wonder if this might be it? Took this a couple days ago on Bayside Drive, near the Ultramar. Maybe not though, looks kinda small..

I stole this for the Freddy thread and commented on Regent over there. But I have to admit, I'm laughing at the start of that release, considering it's posted on the web for the world to see:

Just noticed that construction today. About time they get something there, that lot has been vacant forever.

That construction is scheduled to be a new Subway and self-serve car wash (in separate buildings); the application, complete with site drawings, was before PAC roughly 2 or 3 months ago for a few minor variances.

A new Subway on Bayside Drive? They must be adding a new one as there are only two East right now. This still doesn't make up for losing the awesome Union Street location.

Consider me there nonetheless.

There's also apparently a Subway going into the Walmart on the West side.

I don't see where they'd fit that... it's pretty much all "Walmarted", if you will.

So do we have any idea what is going into the space that will be left empty at City Hall after the SJPF moves into their new HQ?

Is it going to be converted into general purpose office space? I'd imagine it would need serious renovation to bring it up to Class A standards.

How much of that building is occupied by Police, anyway? I've honestly been into the city hall like 3 times other than the Brunswick Square/Market Square passthru.
