That's the impression with which the article left me. The whole thing seems very tenuous. Without the casino, nothing, they say. Without a lot of interest in the residential, we'll end up with two 40-storey office towers. And the hotel towers might be 830 ft and 600 ft, or they might be a lot smaller. All speculation at this point.

The office towers without the casino are doable even at 1100 feet.

The hotel will require the casino to get to 850 feet, IMO.

It seems that the casino holds the key to whether or not they will be able to arrange for the decking over the tracks.

Not according to the Star article. Nothing without the casino approval. Even with the approval, if there's not enough interest in the 30 storeys of residential above the 40 storeys of office, then we'll only get 40 storeys of office. Would that they would then make it a single majestic 80-storey tower instead of twin stumps.

Don't listen to that article, Oxford is looking for a sweet deal with MGM. It's all about greed. Even without the Casino they've still employed Foster to design office towers in their home city. All we would lose would be the hotel component which would not be much of a loss. And yes I'm only saying this from inside information.

So, the 70-storey twins are a done deal, at least insofar as the developer is concerned (whether the city approves them is another story)?

As far as the hotel, design-wise I actually much prefer the hotel's clean, crisp oval cylinders to the office towers' geometric overload.

So then you must love Concord Pacific's phase one of city-place. Take a square bevel the edges and call it advent-garde.

People keep pumping out floor heights and sq footage and nobody here has seen a blue-print yet. I suggest as far as the Oxford proposal goes we all hold off loving or hating it until we see some solid plans. Right now all it is is speculation.

What's advent-garde? No, don't assume anything. I don't like much of anything about Cityplace architecturally, though I hear it is slowly improving as a livable community.

looks like Caltranes prediction of 40 200+m is starting to come true! we are at 35 right now, with possibly 3 more to come! (Richmond Adelaide III if it goes through as it's tallest form, possibly 45 bay, and another project I heard about in July, but haven't heard anything of since)

Toronto has 11 built, 5 under construction, and 19 proposed for a total of 35. Hopefully, we can get to 60 built by 2020.

I don't know much about the office situation in Toronto but it seems unlikely that the current pace of condo construction is going to continue until 2020. Condo sales have been dropping in Toronto and Vancouver. Canadian mortgage debt has been climbing rapidly and is now very high, so presumably Canadians have been buying housing at an unsustainable pace.

If Toronto condo sales simply return to 2009 levels it will still represent quite a lot of condo demand.

Built: 11
Under construction: 5

TOTAL: 35
