This might be the tallest building in the world for quite a while. Just when you thought the Burj was the extreme, this is putting it to the next level.

This is crazy and a new feat for man in building, but this building is soooo unnecessary. It would be much more viable in hong kong or shanghai or new york but this out in the middle of the desert with lots of land. But its still pretty cool there actually building this

This are in the office of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill who have designed many super-tall buildings in the last few years. . . I think what's in my photos are some buildings in South Korea. . . you can find out more information on some of these other towers from their Website here:

This is silly. . . you're implying that a building needs to fulfill some sort of qualification that is predetermined by the existing built density of the surrounding area. . . in which case a building like this would never be built anywhere in the world. . . Kingdom Tower is the centerpiece of a new master planned development on the outskirts of Jeddah. . . a super-structure such as this seems appropriate enough. . .

Oh yes I'm sorry it obviously looks really fantastic in the middle of the desert with nothing around it, a true sign of prosperity for this 4th century dictatorship

Way to stand up to the moderator, about that, why can't we critique architecture that doesn't even exist yet?

If by appropriate you mean not prudent, then sure. I highly doubt the office space will ever have reasonable occupancy rates. The hotel and the residential? Maybe. A maybe is generally not worth the supposed 1.3 billion this thing will cost.

Regardless how sloppy his language may have been, the gentleman you responded to was right. This would make more sense in Hong Kong or New York, although even in those locations it may have been a failure.

Oh and just in case you feel like lecturing me: A) I understand that the real estate business is risky by nature. B) I've also read the articles on the building, so I'm aware of their plan to use this to attract more construction and not necessarily to turn a profit.

I hear Jeddah is a pretty liberal city by Saudi standards. So it should be possible to visit without a special permit or a working visa.

this is epic. Absolutely epic.

It's amusing when people get into details about 'it shouldn't be built here, blah blah blah'

who cares! It's a 3000' skyscraper being built right NOW.

where is the drool smiley??

Yes, i partially agree that this is an amazing feat of human ingenuity but this is a complete waste of money and this money can be put to better use in a country where most of the inhabitants are extremely poor.

To Tom: Why am I not allowed to express my opinion on this forum about this building. They do it on every other forum on this website over and over again yet my comment which many agree with on here is criticized?

I think this buiding is amazing but would be much more viable in another city!!

Love it or hate it, it is going to take quite a lot to get this one going with financing, tenants, not to mention who will insure such a behemoth. There are a lot of hurdles in the way for something like this to get built.

Considering the extravagent spending of royal families in the Arab region; plus with all the oil, I don't think the financing would be difficult.

I agree with the moderator lets stick to the topic. This building is for the future and one that will venture mankind to new heights of achieving what norman foster once dreamed off this building will celebrate vision and ambition. I think many years from now people will marvel ay its grandure forget the buildings that are in the 2000ft club this building will spark the 3000ft 1km trend why? Because mankind aspires to be bold and in this context the bigger the building the more ambitious you are in the eorld of commerce Saudi is diversifying its industry and this building like many to come in the future will be part of it

First let's get this off the ground, and then another 10+ years for completion. The Burj shall rule with all her might for an excruciatingly long time.
