There are several newly posted interior images on the Waterside facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/pages/RBC-Waterside-Centre/108681372508949?sk=photos

This image (below) from 9-13-2012 seems to show how part of the original facade is being tied into the new concrete structure with metal fasteners, which will be embedded in the soon to be poured concrete floor.

Thanks for pointing that out sdm. This is something that I had wondered about; whether the wall supports would be removed as the concrete structure was sufficiently completed.

It's too bad the columns weren't designed for a future expansion. It looks as though those colums would just make it to 9 storeys.

Thanks for the update. This one's really starting to take shape. The upper office floors are fairly tall; it looks like at 5 floors it's already taller than Morse's Teas. That is a good sign since there was a risk of it looking strangely stubby next to 1801 Hollis if it was too short.

It will be interesting to see how the lobby side turns out. The south end of the block already looks quite nice. The architecture of those two brick buildings works in this sort of reuse. The copper cornices appear to help a lot. I am not sure that the other facades will look as good.

I'm going to hold my breath until I see the colour of the glass, when this project is nearing completion. Some renderings show glass that is clear, neutral -- in others blue -- in a couple, green.

I may dislike green quite a bit, unless it is a tone that works well with the bricks of the reused portion. I'd be happy for something more neutral, like the Purdy Wharf Towers.

I don't want the colour to look horrid next to 1801 Hollis, since it's my favourite building in Halifax.

I completely agree... green would be a disaster. I'm hoping clear/neutral or a blue that works with 1801 and Purdy's.

Yes, and i would say they will be topped off by years end. Those columns are for the underside of the sixth floor.

Once they are able to clear the roof of the morse tea building they will certainly be able to go faster on the north end.

I agree... great shots!

Can't help but notice that the Morse Tea building appears to have shared a common wall with an earlier building. Does anybody know or have pics of that building? It's cool that it has remained all these years, though it looks like it may be covered up soon.

What you are seeing on the side is the original roofline of the Morse's Teas building (a.k.a. Jerusalem Warehouse because that was formerly the site of the Jerusalem Coffee House). The lower stone floors were built around 1840 and then the brick addition was built around 1900.

You can see something similar on the side of the Dennis Building. The lower floors were constructed around 1860. There was a fire circa 1910. The building was gutted at that time but then rebuilt with three extra floors.
