MPI (the Crown Corp) just owns the lots. It will continue to own the lots but the development on them is private investment. MPI will work out a deal with the developer (Stevenson Group) for a lease deal. This is not a government project and will be significant in terms of private dollars.

Mississauga is not part of Toronto, it is in a separate municipality called Peel Region. It is a suburb of Toronto but it is not included in the City of Toronto's (what used to be called metro Toronto) population. I believe you are referring to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in which Mississauga is indeed included.

Drove past the new retail development at Henderson and the Perimeter yesterday and was surprised by the size of the area being worked. With work already underway on preparing the site seems to suggests the tenants are already lined up. Also for all you urban sprawl fanatics, even though this is "inside" the Perimeter it actually is outside the boundaries of the City and all related taxes go to East St Paul.

I thought that was residential only. Do you know what type of retail is going in there?

^^^ They have not yet secured tenants. They are planning to build approx 50,000 sq ft in 3 or 4 strip type buildings. It is the standard small commercial retail unit type of development.

Hamilton has been considered to be a part of the Toronto GTA as well, does that make it just a suburb?

Anyone who has ever been to Mississauga recently would know that it is very much not just a "suburb" of Toronto.

It may not be a CMA, but it is a larger "city" than Winnipeg, which is what we were talking about.

The same thing can be said about Milton, or Barrie, or Oshawa, or even Hamilton. Unless you are really good at reading signs that is.

I don't think so, they're still doing minor work on the exterior. you can see parts of the refurbished theatre through the windows though and it looks really good.
