The building already made it thru the UDP, so while I expect some tweaking I don't expect we'll see a redesign. Guess I'm one of the few that likes the current design.
I also like the current design, feels fresh to me.

Thank you. FYI, the links in your post above to the elevations and stats are no longer. It just says "page does not exist," which is probably why I had difficulty with it.

The Office Building and Car Dealership have been redesiged by renowned Architect Bing Thom. A revised rezoning application is being submitted and the project will proceed back to Urban Design Panel before referral to Public Hearing - target November. Images to follow shortly. Thanks for your interest.

That's fantastic news!

Dare to dream of something of this calibre?

Thom's original design for Hotel Georgia. http://pricetags.wordpress.com/2006/12/18/what-happened/

The office building was the shortest of the 3 towers, so anything like that is unlikely. That design (while awesome) would have been really expensive to build and likely could only be justified in an area where the landlord could extract really premium rents (IE, not Burrard and Drake).

Great news. I would like to see Thom given full creative control over the entire project.

And a quote from Bing Thom:

The character of the building is quite curvaceous and flowing, with the folds in the form shading the façade. We really treated the building as a piece of sculpture that will serve as an entry beacon to the downtown.

The building is visually anchored by the car showroom on the corner. This is conceived as a sort of magical house of mirrors where the cars will almost appear to float in the space.

so short, in re the gateway entry effect, it would be an awesome if a much taller tower rose on the site just north of this one, right behind it.

Nice.

I like the way they've played with the spandrels - emphasizing the banding and adding variation (with fritting?).

The angled side reminds me of that Gehry building in NYC.

Hopefully they'll do a better job of lining up the mullions at the angled corners than Bing Thom did on the Surrey Library:

^^Don't think that will be an issue. The glass here is closer to how it's done at the Erickson condo.

What they really need to do is redesign the 2 residential towers... or at least one of them (preferrably the south one), so that we're not getting cheap twins.
