I put a couple photos on RAM Engineering's facebook site of SFPR:

Feel free to like the site as I'll try to put more photo's up in the future.

Delta Engineering Report

https://delta.civicweb.net/Documents/DocumentDisplay.aspx?Id=74638

According to this document from the Delta Engineering Department (August 1, 2012) Tilbury is still an intersection, but Sunbury is back to an interchange. Maybe a surprise announcement is forthcoming?

It seems logical given the extreme close proximity of the rail overpass to just build an interchange now.

Also ultimate cross section at the 99 interchange is 11 lanes including the new Burns Dr.

Some footage of driving the roadway from Global TV:

Also, as of today the old drawings were removed, and this message was posted:

"Reference Concept

PLEASE NOTE (Tuesday, October 9, 2012):
Updated alignment maps are now available on the project construction site at:

www.sfprconstruction.ca

Please update any bookmarks / shortcuts you may be using to get to this page"

But the maps are nowhere to be found on either site anymore

Under "Information Centre" the Allignment Maps link takes a circular loop back to the Gateway website.

Under "The Project" there is a new "Allignment Maps" link that says "Coming Soon"

From 1:42 to 2:10 of the video is the new 1/2 km twin Fraser Heights Wetlands Bridge already line-striped.

Here's a same view while it was under construction:

I don't know if it's from the video's angle, it looks like the SFPR's lanes are narrower (typical BC's lane width for "freeways") than the ones on Hwy 1 or the Interstates (too narrow for my liking). But at least they have consider shoulder room.

Well... page 95 of the SFPR EA documents confirm that the lane width is standard 3.7 m (12-feet).

I can guarantee you that Sunbury is an intersection. It will be opening in a couple of months to divert River Road traffic onto the new "River Road Connector" between Nordel and 9600 block. The SFPR will then cross existing River Road.

What is the reasoning for having an exit coming out SE from the Tilbury intersection/future interchange? There's nothing to access there except the bog, and I thought that it was more or less protected from future development...

The maps are online now. Sunbury and Tilbury are both still intersections.

Speed enforcement?

http://maps.sfprconstruction.ca/maps/S10.pdf

Two fairly long pull-out sections on the north and south side of the highway - are these for speed enforcement? They seem too long for emergency pullouts, and too short for a rest area.

Also here: http://maps.sfprconstruction.ca/maps/S20.pdf

Three short pull outs in quick succession on the south side of the highway. Seems likely for speed enforcement (this is a long stretch with no intersections east of Bridgeview).

Not surprising but also sort of lame considering it was designed for 90 km/hr (and probably safe at 100) but only signed at 80.

Sunbury intersection

http://maps.sfprconstruction.ca/maps/S11.pdf

So Sunbury is an intersection. It seems like an implicit admission if you're going to build an intersection 9 lanes wide that an interchange is already needed (although at least they had the sense to make the rail overpass wide enough for seven lanes). Also an intersection that wide seems like it would be pretty hostile to cyclists (although I doubt many pedestrians would venture here).

104th Intersection

http://maps.sfprconstruction.ca/maps/S22.pdf

Considering 176th street will be at least an 8%-9% grade south toward the Trans Canada, it seems unfortunate there isn't a third lane here (the environmental review didn't allow for it). There are going to be trucks jockeying up the hill at 20 km/hr here from day one. Seems like an overpass/interchange could have helped ease the grade at the hill.

Kind of feel a little bit bad for the three houses on the right side of this picture (their driveways essentially are on a highway ramp - the price of progress, I guess) : http://maps.sfprconstruction.ca/images/s22/S22-1.jpg

Also New West looks like they are getting more serious about not supporting a new Pattullo if there's a connection to the South Fraser Perimeter Road (unless a direct ramp to the Port Mann at 152 is built).

Yeah, but they bought houses across from an intermodal yard anyways - what do they expect?

They've likely never ever stepped foot on their front yards anyway since the garages are on the back lane, and they've likely learned not to keep the front windows open. I don't feel sorry anyway.

176 St at that point is supposed to be a truck route, so it doesn't matter. At least it was four laned to begin with so it'll be ok unless you see one semi trying to overtake another semi.

*Cue serious worry*
A short merge, guys. A short merge!
And one on a merge that, given the traffic from Ladner and Route 17, I'd expect to be very busy! And, given the northbound overpass, would have somewhat limited visibility as well.

If this is really how it's going to be (as in the drawing) then consider me sorely disappointed. Even the Deltaport Way to SFPR northbound merge is going to be short and that's going to involve large and heavy trucks that need MORE merge time, that may be occasionally merging with heavy ferry traffic. The merge setup that was given on Highway 17 northbound was far better.

I don't know where the sudden standards drop comes from but this is going to be a mess...

Yeah, after looking at all of the alignment maps, no surprises, until I spotted that!

"Old Yale Road - Temporary Intersection"

IIRC, the SFPR was supposed to cross over OYR. And BTW, the "temporary" bit is not about an intersection at Sunbury that one day will be converted to an interchange, for example.

It's "temporary". Still don't get it. For how long? A few months? Anyone have any insight?! Def a strange one.
