I'm lovin these latest pics of yours T-Mac. The Crandall and this corner have
never looked better. The future Cascade Tower will also look outstanding from

I went downtown today and took TRAX from West Valley. I really love that train. Only thing I wish I had on me was my camera as I ended up having 30min waiting for someone in my group to show up with the tickets. Very cool on how busy it gets downtown during Conference weekend.

I will be going again tomorrow morning and I will try and convince the wife to let me take some pictures of the Federal Courthouse and maybe a few other locations before heading home after the morning session. My wife thinks that when we go downtown together it means together time and not me taking pictures.

I was able to take some pictures, but not of anything under construction. Mainly stayed around Temple Square and down to Gateway. Wanted to walk around but we ended up having family calling us asking when we were coming back as they had our kids. I will post some of them later.

Like I said I didn't get many pictures taken. My wife and I went to the morning session of Conference with some friends and then had lunch after. By the time we were done with lunch family was calling and really didn't get the chance to walk around like I planned.

You could have turned 90 degrees to your right at this location, then snapped a shot of the courthouse construction... but thanks for all the inspiring Conference pics.

That image was actually from 3-4 weeks ago, I just decided to add it into my images that I posted. I did take courthouse shots but they are older than the ones previously posted a couple pages back. The ones I have still show them working on the glass on the 7th floor. But if you really want me too, I can still post the images I have as they are from multiple angles. I pretty much walked all the way around the courthouse on that day to take pictures of it.

I have been going downtown at least once a month if not more since moving back to Utah. For the most part I am able to get a few images taken when I am down; but what I really would love to do is have time for a full on walk all over gateway, downtown and east of downtown towards UofU. That way I can a proper current rundown of construction photos to post.

When the hell is Google Maps going to update their street view for Salt Lake City? So many cities, from Portland to Denver, have high resolution photos and we're still stuck with the ones from 2007.

This reminds me. The newest iphone update has an updated satellite view of Salt Lake City in it's map app. The solar panels on top of the Salt Palace look pretty cool.

That would be faaantastic Steve!! The quality and perspective of your pics are excellent. I'm sure we would all like to see as many as you can conveniently give us.

Thanks Steve, There's enough of the vertical ribbing on the glass that I can tell I'm going to like the skin a lot more with it than I would without it.

For those who are going to the PAC workshop as far as the office tower goes ask for a tower no less then 400 FT. We sure could use more of those in our skyline.

Do we know for sure that the vertical ribbing is going to cover the entire building? Looking at the renderings it seems like they are but i didn't know if plans had changed since we hadn't seen much of it yet. I agree that i thinik it will look better with it, it adds a little character to what otherwise would be a big glass box.

Yes, i know it is still a big glass box, but it'll be a big glass box with some decorations on the outside

120-year-old Crandall Building begins (another) new era

The 120-year-old sandstone skyscraper has a front-row seat to downtown’s rebirth.

...Two weeks ago, Starbucks opened shop on the ground floor of the 120-year-old Crandall Building in the exact spot where, in the late 1800s and early 1900s, Utah "gentiles" huddled in the Tea Room to pass the time and maybe a little scuttlebutt.

Parked just down Main Street from the newly opened City Creek Center, the seven-story gray sandstone masterpiece — named to the National Historic Register in 1977 — will be kitty-corner from the Utah Performing Arts Center, scheduled for a March 2016 opening at 137 S. Main.

If walls could talk the Crandall Building, originally known as the McCornick Building, would have a lot to say. It’s seen Utah’s entrance into the Union, women’s suffrage and the Great Depression — even the Olympics. It’s seen trolley tracks come and go and come back. It’s seen the horse and buggy give way to the Tin Lizzie, the sedan, and, finally, the SUV...

The historic Crandall Building on the corner of Main and 100 South in Salt Lake City once housed the Schramm Johnson Tea Room located on the building's southeast corner. A Starbucks just opened in that same spot. credit: Utah State Historical Society.
