I've seen wording of "up to" 85 floors.

I expect the tallest will be 275m before it gets chopped back to 250m by the city, then 230m by market conditions.
Yeah 90 floors of residential won't typically make 300m. I would rather they go with 2 towers of different height with one being a supertall. The exciting times continue in TO.

Don't forget it will have institutional functions at the base.

That might be enough to pop it over. We'll find out for sure tomorrow.

The massing model indicates 3 towers about 275 metres tall. The rest likely hasn't been decide yet. We may even see a 60 storey office tower.

Hopefully tomorrow.

At some point the office bubble will implode. Until then, I wouldn't discount a lot more towers going up.

Ugh, I wondered if this might happen...

Even if the city magically decides to leave this project alone there is a slim chance this will get to supertall heights. And in reality the designs don't really look that deserving of a supertall if you look at it. The middle tower looks interesting the two on the sides look like staggered boxes. If you compare these to supertalls getting built in NY or any other place there is a drastic uniqueness to theirs and ours. I know these are just preliminary designs but usually the first few designs should be the best because no one has put any limitations on them.

Frank Gehry Joins Toronto Development
By CAROL VOGEL

David Mirvish, a former art dealer who is among the leading collectors, theater producers and real estate developers in Canada, has teamed up with Frank Gehry, the 83-year-old Los Angeles-based architect, to reimagine the downtown entertainment district of Toronto.

Mr. Gehry, who is from Toronto, has worked there before; he renovated the Art Gallery of Ontario, which reopened in 2008.

“It is very special for me to be able to work in Toronto, where I was born, and to engage the neighborhoods where I grew up,” Mr. Gehry said.

Full story - http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/30/frank-gehry-joins-toronto-development/

We should find out all of the details tomorrow.

In the last few days, there were six towers proposed for Toronto that broke into the Tallest 50 Proposals list:

Mirvish Towers 1: ~290m
Mirvish Towers 2: ~275m
Mirvish Towers 3: ~275m
IQ Tower 5: 175m
IQ Tower 6: 175m
599 Yonge: 163.2m

Wow.

IQ Towers... never heard of them.

599 Yonge? What?

Where are all these proposals coming from? Do we have renders...?

Anyway, if we include CityPlace's Signature Tower, the two proposals coming for 60 Harbour and the proposal coming for 1 Yonge, Toronto now has 36 towers built, under construction or proposed that are over 200 metres. Your prediction of hitting 40 by the end of 2012 isn't out of the question. Great Gulf's yet undisclosed 24 Lombard proposal, the mystery proposal LeftCoaster alluded to, and the rumoured redevelopment of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre may be enough to get over the top.

Not every day that a development proposal in Toronto gets a NY times mention before it's even been officially announced.

The two IQ towers really took me by surprise. Is there really that much of a market for even one tower that size there? I mean its In the middle of a commercial strip plaza area, and has no transit connections save for a bus.

Being right next to the Gardiner is actually pretty attractive for those working downtown, and I think it's one of the reasons that there are so many condos at Humber Shores (aside from being by the lake).

Actually, I could see the format of mid-rise, mixed-use along The Queensway, high-rise in the centre and skyscrapers along the QEW being replicated a few times over. We cannot deny that views of highways are huge sellers and have been since the first condos went up. You gotta admit the shots of the 401 from the Graydon Hall apartment was the best part of Soderberg's Crash flick.

Just saw something really interesting on CityNews Headlines as I was watching Breakfast Television. It said that the project was in the "works" but also said "the Princess of Wales will be demolished".

This almost makes it seem as if the project was approved and they're certainly going to tear down the theatre :o (which I know can't possibly be the case).

Unless CityNews is just trolling, this is some exciting news! Until then we'll just have to wait for the press conference

a "LEGACY" for Toronto. That vernacular is not being thrown around unless we are talking over 300m. I think at least one of them will be over that threshold

I know this may sound wrong on a skyscraper forum where density is preached but in that model the 3 towers seem too crowded to me. Great project though. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.
