Oh wow, this looks nice! Wish the background of the render showed Downtown though, not a shitload of trees... so we can see the surroundings of course.

cuz hes excited about the project and likes the rendering...... Winnipeg needs modern highrises.. im sure this one and heritage will stand out especially when driving north on main from the bridge

center point and wcc will probably alter the sky line a bit from some angles as well.

a new tallest for the mpi lots? build a /walmart type store for the downtown area on the main level, 6 storys of pkings, than 6 storys of office space.. than 20 story condo above that.

that be walmart anchoring the main level.. probably be suitable for the lot across the street from the police headquarters.

Highly unlikely. They tore up Unicity for a big-box with tons of parking, if thats any indication as to why Wal-Mart is a horrible fit for Downtown Winnipeg...

We have been told over and over again that a new tallest is not a part of any plans for the near future. And a Walmart downtown? Really? No. No. No. No. I am all for more grocery shopping options downtown (seeing as how I live downtown). But never a Walmart.

Hmmm. Not bad. To me (being a 20 year old) there seems to be a bit to much designated parking space, only because this is supposed to be a transit orientated development.

Other than that, the design isn't half bad, the layout of the lots, density, and floor plans seem pretty good as well.

All in all I personally give it a 7-7.5/10.

Any other opinions/ratings on this?

So is this the one running by Fort Rouge yards? I haven't really been following it....did the NIMBYs succeed in getting tower(s) cut?

PS: beautiful picture Chris

Yes it is.

I really hope not. There isn't really anyone close enough that the height of this development would adversely affect, is there? Especially with it being a transit orientated development. Meaning traffic -the only problem I can see people having with such a large scale development- shouldn't be increased too dramatically.

My picture is kind of dark, so if any of you with small screens out there want to check it out; here is the original of my pano. This will pull you right in to the details. I didn't shoot in raw so it is pretty grainy close up. But here you go anyways.

CAUTION - EXTREMELY LARGE FILE (Actually not too large. It is 27megabytes. I have gone up to over a hundred with some of my Panorama's).

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8041/8030643679_262c746bec_o.jpg

Looking at this picture, and picturing the two future towers going up on Assiniboine, I am imagining a very unique skyline in Winnipeg. Most skylines have a progressive increase of height (some not as obvious as others) towards a single building. Currently this is 201 Portage. But Winnipeg is already unique in that it has a cluster off of Assiniboine (Fort Garry Place Cluster) that offsets our main cluster at Portage and main. With the addition of two high-rises, and the right angle, those two towers can create a very unique multi peak skyline. It makes me think of Midtown and Downtown Manhattan. I can't really think of another skyline like that.

this nhl lockout thing is starting make me resent the nhl and its players..

lets just make a push for a lingeree football team that'll give us our sports fix for the winter... only announcements i want to hear in the future are

winnipeg has a new water park
winnipeg signs an expansion lingeree football team
winnipgeg gets an H&m
and winnipeg darkzone reopens

than i truly feel like we as winnipegers can finally claim to be part of the big boys.

Calgary has a sports facility unparalleled in Canada
Vancouver has girls in bikinis
Edmonton has a Zara and
I bet Paramount north of Toronto is a really good place to be

WHY should be like every other city? Retail I agree with, but recreation and entertainment? We should be the ones building amusement parks, especially since Callaway Park is Calgary is probably the only (non-kiddie) roller coaster in Western Canada. We sure as hell got the land for it, and the young people that can use summer work. Imagine if it was built near Fun Mountain and Tinkertown, then we'd be able to have a theme park district in Winnipeg. Throw on a bus route too, maybe a few cheap hotels. That is what Winnipeg needs more than women tackling eachother for orange balls...

Also, do not put North American Midway (or anyone like them) in charge. Unless you want Americanized standards of social welfare, ridiculously expensive bottles of Pepsi or an American manager who won't even let you take a piss, I'd rather have a Canadian company thats at least heard of this thing called "labour laws". The sub-company I worked in was WAY better than the others, at least if you got fired, you had a guaranteed ride home. My friend got sick at work, his Missisippi-based manager from a different sub-company fired him on the spot no pay no NOTHING, and he spent a month or two in Calgary busking and attempting to earn enough for a Greyhound ticket back to Winnipeg... got arrested for it, too.

Reminds me, deleting that pic of me in my earlier post, before I get sued the American way for a billion bucks, and have CTV knocking on my door!

If we're guessing, I'm going with the new building for the WAG's Inuit collection. I'd say that's worthy of a banana.

If you got the Inuit project, congratulations. And I am more than confident it will be an amazing piece once finished.
