^The railings on the balconies don't seem to meet the dividing wall between units. Perhaps they're building something flush to the wall to mask the unit? I'm guessing the design decision probably took into account they'll own these units for quite some time and it's pretty expensive to fix any leaks if your refrigerant lines run 20 stories to the roof. My brother had his unit go out on his loft and the repair cost was tripled due to the 10 stories from his unit to the chiller even though he has 900sf of balcony they could have easily located his unit on.

Having the units situated closely to a concrete wall on one side and a glass wall on another will probably make these units run less efficiently than intended. Outdoor units like these typically need airflow from all sides, or at least the manufacturer would probably recommend that. Hopefully when all of these apartments are occupied and all of the HVAC units on a stack are running at the same time in the hot summer, it won't lead to a dramatic humming noise... That's likely though.

I am glad we are getting some urban infill but I think all of these buildings are soooo ugly. What ever happen to brick? Brick is classic and simple. Never goes out of style.

In my opinion that's pretty nice looking building and big glassy apartments are much better then the one made of cheap looking stone and siding. I wish to see more buildings like that with a green spaces and parks incorporated with them.

I assume GSU will buy the Georgia Dome. Also, I drove by SkyHouse on Spring. I am happy with the retail frontage orientation. It emphasizes the future development near 14th where they did all the mega-infrastructure upgrades while rebuilding the bridge.

There is a vertical screening element that runs the height of the building. Look at the latest Oxblue images. You must have figured they intentionally left the rails short to expose the condenser units?!? And so people could jump easily from their skytrailors...lol no.

I never implied that the units wouldn't be covered. What I did imply was the cheapness of it in relation to what the website describes as "an outpost of decadent rentals." Actually, aesthetically, I find it to be somewhat creative. Granted, this place appears to offer more for the money than some existing places. It will be interesting to watch prices as the units hit the market. Also, one has to hope that cost cutting will help keep the price low so that units will be affordable enough to fill up. Overall, I think the project should still do well.

MARTA eyes new development at train stations

MARTA has identified at least 10 of its train stations as potential magnets for new mixed-use developments that could generate millions in additional revenue for the financially-strapped transit authority.

MARTA’s initial plan includes the possibility of developing the following stations: Avondale, Brookhaven, Edgewood/Candler Park, Hamilton E. Holmes, King Memorial, Kensington, Lakewood/Ft. McPherson, Lindbergh Center, Medical Center and Oakland City.

The idea comes as MARTA officials say they are receiving more interest from developers that are considering projects near existing train stations.

Cox Communications building new tower

Email Cox Enterprises Inc. plans to build a new 578,000-square-foot office building in Sandy Springs, Ga.

The 19-story building will be next to Cox Enterprises’ headquarters on a 28.8 acre tract called Central Park, on the east side of Peachtree Dunwoody Road. It will be the home to Cox Communications’ corporate operations.

Construction is set to begin in the first quarter of 2013 with occupancy expected in 2015, Cox Enterprises said.

Cousins Properties Inc. (NYSE: CUZ), Holder Construction, Duda/Paine and HKS Architects will partner on the new facility.

Downtown Museum Updates

According to the Sept. 28th newsletter of The Spark - a Communication of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, CEO Doug Shipman, says, "As fall arrives on the Center construction site you will be able to see soil rehabilitation and balancing. Graphic treatments will be applied to the site fence to let passers by know what is occurring and, in the coming weeks, you will see heavy equipment loaded in."

I also read in the ABC that the College Football Hall of Fame should break ground in late 2012 early 2013 and take about 18 months to construct.

Sorry, joecool - These folks decamped for the Perimeter and aren't coming back in. Just imagine if all of their recent investments HAD been ITP, though.

Hey, at least the Perimeter Center area is getting denser and denser, and they are between the Dunwoody & Sandy Springs train stations (they run shuttles for their employees).

If all the high rises near the perimeter ( including the 75 - 285 triangle area) had been built between downtown and Buckhead we would have a very dense and spectacular skyline. We'll just have to wait until 2075 or so when all these areas are connected.

I'll also point at that likely a large majority of their employees live north of there, which is definitely a consideration for them. And of course, it's a bit of damage done since they'd some time ago made the decision to build a corporate campus there. So building elsewhere really wouldn't be an option.

And considering there are another two stations in the area in addition to the aforementioned Dunwoody & Sandy Springs, there are definitely worse options transit-wise.

As far as Edge Cities go, Perimeter could be much, much worse. The two CID's there are really trying to make things better - and it is starting to show with all of the pedestrian improvements over the last few years. There aren't too many of these districts around the country with 4 heavy rail stations already in place. Add in a single seat ride to Buckhead, Midtown, Downtown & the Airport and this place is only going to get denser and more urban going forward. Hell, Tysons is just NOW getting what has been already been in place for years here transit-wise.

The real game changer will be High Street, directly accross from the Dunwoody Station at Perimeter Center West & Hammond. The zoning is already in place, now we just need the recovery and demand to pick up some speed.

Midtown Station Parking Lot

I would really love to see the giant parking lot across the street from the Midtown Marta station broken up into a couple of blocks and redeveloped. It's such an eyesore in a vibrant walkable part of town.

Does anyone know if this land is owned by Marta? It would be nice if they could include this in their list of transit oriented developments.

99% sure it's owned by AGL given the presence of AGL branded CNG Honda Civics in the lot and the fact that it's security controlled lot. It is quite the eyesore.

No, it's not owned by MARTA. There was a plan for it a few years ago. It's a difficult site given the tunnels under it, which make development there extremely expensive.

If I had a billion dollars, I'd buy that parking lot from AGL and turn it into a centerpiece park complete with philadelpha-sized fountain in the middle
