This sod turning was to mark the start of construction for the second building out of four. So technically the sod turning is at the beginning of construction, just one building later than what you'd expect.

Here are some great shots of things going on around regina in the past few weeks from the leaderpost. Intersting to note photo 4's info. "The Regina Inn will close soon to undergo nine months of renovations .." Did not know the whole hotel was closing??

I was chatting with one of the Regina Inn staff last week about this and she said it is going to be a $32 million reno with updates being made to all guest rooms, banquet rooms etc. She made it sound as if it was just inside renos but I'd imagine the outside will continue to get a major facelift too. $32 million sounded like a crazy amount to me, but who knows... They also mentioned that it'll be branded by a different franchise hotel name once the renos are done.

Not a full-fledged Hilton, but one of their family of brands, right? I'm just speculating, but it doesn't seem like the work they've done so far on the exterior would be enough to bring it to Hilton standards. If Hilton gives up on Capital Pointe ever being built, it could be a Hilton Garden. Or a Hampton Inn, which has been aggressively expanding in Canada and doing a lot of advertising lately.

Well, if the Regina Inn is to be rebranded as a Hilton of some sort, then that could be - yet - another nail into Capital Pointe's "would-be" coffin.

That's a lot of rooms to shut down at once. I imagine they will be missed during Agribition. Any word on when the new Best Western Plus on Eastgate is supposed to open?

The stucco is going on the office blg at 11th and Broad. At least they added a splash of color. The bottom is the ubiquitous stacked stone.

Drove past Capital Point today...big dump truck on the lot. Something going on? Cleaning out the weeds? Preparing parking stalls? Or maybe....beginning to build something??

according to the article in today's Leader-Post, the Regina Inn will close on January 1st, so it will still be open for Agribition. It is expected to re-open in October 2013, in time for the Grey Cup.

I missed that. Thank you. So it's the first 9 months of 2013 that it'll be closed.

Didn't the Holiday Inn on Prince of Wales briefly open under a different name for the 2003 Grey Cup? If memory serves the hotel was incomplete and they couldn't use the Holiday Inn name yet.

Judging by the design, the builder being Deveraux, and the time frame, looks like this will be another modular/prefab structure.

Haha I didn't notice it at first, but you're right. Sorta reminds me of that moment in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where the door gets smaller and smaller.

I saw cement trucks there as well but couldn't tell why...
