Man, I don't know, guys. I am really underwhelmed with all of those. I was expecting more urbanism and less park. I really can't see how any of those is any better than any other. They all seem pretty bad.

I think it's a forgone conclusion that Lake|Flato is going to win, though. The city council loves them, for some reason. But their creation of a water park-looking place shows that they really don't know Austin at all. A water park? What's next? A Farris Wheel? So hokey and mundane. No thanks.

I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm going to be disappointed. I guess I would lean toward the CMG one. Their vision for Palm Park is kinda nice.

I totes agree. I do not understand why city council loves Lake|Flato sooo much. Yes, they've done some nice things, but they're KINDA DULL. CMG is my official favorite. I just wish they could add the bridge going across town lake to the CMG proposal.

On the parks subject: Compared to many other cities, Austin does not have a lot of parks.. We need more.

Is that that Nahua Tower? That angled one near the Mexican Cultural Museum. That building was mentioned as being 400 feet tall.

And it looks like they left out the Hotel Van Zandt. That one is still in the planning stages. it's supposed to be 197 feet tall and be just north of The Shore.

I put the images together to make it easier to look at the pictures from each team and understand where they are pictures of.

Tomorrow I might try to do a thing that puts each teams proposal for each area together and compares them. To kinda see each side by side. Because they are all very different. Like one thing that has the plan for Waterloo Park of each team all side to side, and another that has the lake front park for each side by side, and same of the Convention Center park together.

Note!!: The image is BIG!

Groundbreaking imminent for SkyHouse Austin high-rise

Quote:
Austin Business Journal by Jan Buchholz, Staff Writer
Date: Thursday, September 20, 2012

Construction will begin in the next few days on the SkyHouse Austin luxury high-rise. The announcement was made Thursday by one of the co-developers of the apartment community, which will be built at 51 Rainey St. downtown. Project spokesman Thornton Kennedy said about 500 workers will be employed by construction of the high-rise, which is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2013.

What's that tall building just north of The Shore? To me it looks like the original rendering for the Hotel Van Zandt when it was supposed to have the condos on top.

The Hotel Van Zandt was planned to be immediately north of The Shore. And when I say immediately, I mean the two would be touching. I've seen the site plans for it. They're still planning a 197 foot 16-story hotel. The building in that image is some other project that we haven't heard of. Some of those buildings may be semi-conceptual.

And that's great news about Skyhouse.

I'm going downtown again today to go see the Waller Creek designs at City Hall. I'll take some pictures.

Well, I went. I got there too late, though. I did talk to someone, and she said that the images they have at those presentations are basically the same as what they have on the website. I asked if there were any models or anything, and she said no.

The next presentation location is at the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum tomorrow. I'm considering going, but if I did, man that would be 4 days this week that I've rode my bike downtown. I've already logged 63 miles this week!

I did get some nice photos inside of City Hall, though. And I also wondered around the Hilton Convention Center Hotel and Hilton Garden Inn for some photos.

State reviewing proposals for three more public-private developments in Austin

By Laylan Copelin

Published: 9:19 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012

Proposals for a new state office building in north Central Austin and two mixed-use projects near the Capitol have been submitted to the Texas Facilities Commission.

The public-private partnerships are being reviewed by staff members before the full proposals, minus proprietary information, are posted on the agency's website.

■ A state office building and mixed-use project at the southeast corner of 51st and Guadalupe streets, on the parking lot at the state's John H. Winters office complex.

■ A mixed-use project at a state parking lot on the southeast corner of 11th Street and Congress Avenue.

■ A mixed-use project on the northeast corner of 15th and Lavaca streets, a parcel that includes a state parking lot and the state employees' child care facility.

Has anybody watched these on Youtube? I think these are pretty awesome and I like how the City of Austin its doing its job to inform the citizens. Unfortunately this video only has 67 views. I wonder if there's an actual TV channel in Austin that shows these.
Video Link

btw thanks Kevin for the tips on how to embed vids!

Yes the city has a local channel that not only shows live city council meetings and other meetings during the week they also show these segments.

JW Marriott Convention Hotel - 408 feet - 34 floors - 1,012 rooms

They were pouring concrete around those beams.

And they had more of them piled up on the east side of the block here:

Gables Park Plaza II - 223 feet - 18 floors - 277 units

Hyatt Place - 207 feet - 17 floors - 276 rooms

Whitley - 196 feet - 16 floors - 275 units

Framework for the mechanical penthouse.

2400 Nueces - 181 feet - 16 floors - 306 units

It was up to the 13th floor working on the 14th in these.

The crane to the left is for Callaway House.
