About farking time. Get the freaking cyclists off the west sidewalk on the Cambie Bridge. The "no bike" signs on that side are almost univerally ignored, and when I told a cyclist about the signs, I get a foul tirade about how he'd smash my face in if he wasn't such a nice guy. I kid you not.

And yes, when I ride my bike north over the bridge, I use the roadway. If I can grow some, then anyone can.

Rage a little more.

Will jaywalkers be ticketed as well? What about cars pulled over in no-stopping zones, bike lanes, and so on?

Same goes for pedestrians on the east side of Burrard.

Huh? Why? On the Cambie bridge northbound there's a perfectly good wide shared bike/pedestrian path right beside you, why on earth would you want to mix with vehicular traffic?

Yes, they all should be. Where did I EVER say that we should only enforce proper bike ridership? Your paranoia is showing.

My error. I meant southbound.

That being said, I don't have a problem riding on either direction of the bridge.

You just brought up "evil cyclists" again and had a rage-filled post about it. I'm not the one who's paranoid around here.

Bike sharing

Some more info on the proposed program and some timelines:

http://www.vancouversun.com/news/lea...medium=twitter

Looks like they want the city to vote on something by the end of the year and to get it up and running by summer 2013.

RFP for feasibility study to examine widening of Granville and Cambie Bridges for pedestrians and bikes.
Cambie: Closing one southbound lane and widening west side sidewalk at south end
Granville: That middle island concept....

Quote:
SCOPE OF WORK SUMMARY
3.1 The scope of work includes the following elements:

- Structural concept development to widen the southbound off-ramp on the west side of the Cambie Bridge to improve cycling

- Structural concept development for modifications on the Granville Bridge to create a centre sidewalk and bike connection
See the pdf attachment at the following link - Appendix A - for bigger, legible versions of the diagrams...

http://former.vancouver.ca/fs/bid/bi...PS20120758.htm

CAMBIE BRIDGE
One southbound lane would be closed...

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

GRANVILLE BRIDGE
One lane each way would be closed. The ped/bikeway would be raised above traffic level.
Note notation at Granville Loops: Planned future intersection when Granville Loops removed.
Note notation at south end: Centre channel for 2-way bike traffic. Considering vehicle volumes - strip all curbside parking.

If Visions' gonna ram this through, then don't piss my tax money away on studies and call it consultation. You know they'll just ram it through anyways.

Oh, I don't know. With the upcoming significant reduction in traffic capacity eastward with the upcoming destruction of the viaducts, this seems like a good time to reduce bridge capacity heading south out of the City.

I could understand the Granville St bridge proposal as we could argue it's overbuilt, but think the Cambie St one would suffer too much with losing one lane. Perhaps it would be best to "Trial : the Granville bridge for a year and see how that goes before looking at the Cambie bridge. I also would'nt be against reducing the speed limits on the bridges and narrowing the lanes to regular widths to help expand non-motorized transport.

As an enthusiastic supporter of bike lanes in general and the downtown lanes in particular, I'm a little baffled by the plans for the Cambie bridge. There's a already a perfectly good bidirectional bike path on the east side of the bridge that doesn't seem to be overused right now, at least not when I've been on it.

The Burrard bridge is a little special because it captures bike traffic from every point west of the bridge, but unless you're coming from / going to some place pretty close to Cambie street there are alternative routes available. So I'm not really understanding where the push is coming from for more bike capacity there.

Maybe it's just a straw man set up to take the fall in exchange for support for Granville bridge plan.

Uh right. Cutting capacity in one area should logically lead to more capacity cuts? What dreamy jet-pack future do you live in exactly?

If it was sarcasm, no I didn't see it. We need a sarcasm emoticon, or at least for my benefit it would seem.
