I think it would be a great to have the Nordstrom Canadian head office here in Vancouver. What Huethar said makes sense. Proximity to Seattle decreases cost, time, and travelling expense for the company having the Seattle head office closer. Hope the Nordström excutives come to realize this. (Plus this would add to our corporate mass, something for Vancouver to catch up on.)

No one ever needs to meet in person, almost never. It would actually be stupid imo to locate their Canadian office in Vancouver, in business its all about connections, in Toronto they will be exposing them selves to more corporate business oportunities.

Its the 21st century and there is NO reason to locate office close, its actually a disadvantage.

Good points, thanks. Kind of a shame for Vancouver, though.

I totally disagree and what corporate business opportunities do they need to be exposed to in toronto?

Is there more than 1 render??

I like this side of the building (facing Robson Square) but I really, really hope they have some form of lighting / signage animation / screens facing the Granville side.

This was exactly their thinking.

From the Nordstrom press release.
I think I still see a lot of blank wall at grade.
NOTE: The Georgia rotunda appears to have been squared off.

That big blank block facing the Granville Robson corner with the Pacific Centre Logo is screaming for a video screen or two to mirror Future Shop. Honestly, it is the perfect canvas...

Nice. However it'd be nice if they gave us some renderings of the other two sides... From appearances it seems like they'll be given similar treatment, but of course one can't tell for sure from that Google Sketch drawing.

Its nice, definitely an improvement of what is there now, and is consistent with the adjacent buildings. So much for the mythical 600 foot office tower people dream about, but I never expected such would happen anyway.

The only annoying thing I found was in that Globe and Mail article where the office space is said to attract tenants with younger workers to downtown.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle4548472/

Quote:
Broker Maury Dubuque, with Colliers International, said he believes the offices above the department store will draw tenants with younger employees who will be attracted by the idea of working downtown, close to transit, stores and entertainment.
Believe me, you don't need to put office space on top of this building to do that. Lots of young people would jump the opportunity to work in downtown, if the existing downtown tenants would simply let them....

I think the quote was simply intended to mean it could attract software companies (who look for large floorplate premises) - and who happen to have younger workers.

Cadillac Fairview send a notice around the office today sayting that its part of the renovation would last 18 months (i.e. before handover to tenants for leasehold improvements):

Quote:
The entire project will last approximately 18 months, and is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2012. As work commences, you will receive further information on any potential impacts, as well as progress updates.

Oooh it will take more than an office development with large floor plates to make that happen. Then again, call centres need large floor plates too...

I think the analogy would be to the Crystal Decisions->Business Objects->SAP space (910 Mainland).
