Raise a Little Hell is pleased to present its latest installment of Where in the World is Stuart Murray.

Murray, the CEO of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, flies around Canada on a regular basis and sometimes travels abroad on “official business.”
Naturally, taxpayers are stuck with the airline bills, the hotel costs and Murray’s meal expenditures. After all, the guy’s gotta eat.

Here are a few I took this past week. I was really impressed by how great it looks. It holds out the promise of being a work of architecture that will stand the test of time, unlike some other 'starchitecture' museums.

The cloud glass looks better in person than it comes off in some photographs.

Is the top half of the spire going to be blue glass like the bottom half? or is it going to stay clear?

The glass stays the way you see it. The highest level of the dark blue glass is where the observation deck will be. The top half stays clear because of the way it will be illuminated at night.

The observation deck isn't right at the top?

Nope.....there were fire and accessibility concerns.

i am not a fan of the blue glass.....it would have been so much nicer if the whole tower was clear.

they really botched the glass all around on that building....black, blue, light blue, opaque frit....whats wrong with clear glass?

sure doesn't look like the etherial renderings that won the competition.

I actually disagree on this one. That is only because I think it would look far too industrial had the entire building been clear. Looking at the amount of steel that went into the building (even from what is visible of the tower) there would be too much revealed steal.

I personally don't mind the shell. However a gradual shift from frit to clear from the bottom up on the tower would have looked phenomenal.

The reason I like the frit is also because of how it reflects the sky, and at night it is no longer opaque but perfectly transparent. When walking by at night with construction lights on inside, you can see right through the beast.

I agree a gradual shift would have been stellar, shame it didn't happen

But I do sorta dig the different colours. It would have been boring had it all been the same "cloud" colour

I am most interested in the lighting the building will have...Biff has been teasing that its going to be stellar

Even now at night, it is lit up enough to see the interior! It is pretty amazing, and it will be even more so when finished.

Speaking of lit up, does anyone know why they stopped using colourful lights on the bridge? That was pretty cool. Is it only for special occasions? The combination of the bridge and museum lighting could be pretty amazing if they worked on co-ordination!

I'm in agreement with Viking, the glass should have been uniform, although not necessarily clear, opaque frit overall would have been fine. The blue glass section almost looks like they ran out of material (glass) and made substitutions, and then ran into that problem when completing the top of the spire and this time substituted in clear glass. To me it just wrecked the look of the whole project.

Good job Winnipeg. Many people thought this had a snow ball's chance in hell of getting built and/or ridiculed the idea from the start. Now look at you. This is a feather in your cap.

I agree, that during the day it doesn't look as good as it could. But let's wait until night time. But what was the purpose of the blue rather than frit? I understand the clear at the top - to give a torch like effect - but why blue?
