The lease with the owners of the Rock Creek bistro to build a new restaurant in that location has fallen through. The property developers are currently looking for a new lessee for the space.

This is very "I heard it from a friend of a friend" but this person works in the city planning department so I tend to trust the information. He said that the Southland Mall parking lot is being ripped up right now to install water supply pipes and sewer pipes to feed two outbuildings on the south east side of the parking lot. One going right on the corner by Albert & Gordon and the other going where the big blue recycling bins used to be (hence them being removed).

The application to lease the one building is complete and the lessee is Swiss Chalet. The Southland Mall's property managers are in talks with "another chain restaurant" for the other building as well but it hasn't been released yet which one it will be.

Hmm, that is interesting, I beleive I read on the Saskatoon thread that the Regina Swiss Chalet is opening up in one of the old Block Buster locations. And there is something definitely going into the former block buster on South Albert, I passed by the other day and renovations look under way. In any event, sounds like we are getting a Swiss Chalet, I mean two rumors can't be wrong can they??

I think the big blue bins have been gone for a while, and thought that was a city initiative rather than a Southland mall thing but could be wrong..

Hah, exactly. Who knows what will actually happen. People talk a lot, it's hard to say for sure who's speculating and who actually knows. We'll see some new business signs popping up soon in either case. I'm excited for the Southland mall to be filled with life again.

As per the leader post, a Taste Regina article said that a second Five Guys Burger will be opening in the old east Blockbuster location. No date on exact time of opening

Five Guys is expanding. A lease was recently signed to open another Regina location in East Landing in the former Blockbuster location next to Smokin' Okies. Rumour has it they are looking for a third spot in the north. Saskatoon is also on the map for another Saskatchewan location.

Does this mean more people are actually moving into Regina, or does it mean more people within the city are shuffling around? If it's partly of the former, will Regina's population be able to catch up with Saskatoon's?

the coscto gas bar is taking shape, they have the tanks in the ground and a roof over head and it looks like there installing the pumps themselves now. As well as browns social pub is almost near compleation, which is located on the corner of prince of whales and eastgate drive(service road). There is tons of activity on that corner, several buildings are theere now, with more on the way

Is there any chance the hotel on Dewdney will look something like Canterbury Commons pictured above? It would really blend in with the warehouse district nicely if it did. Broad St. Crossing would have looked better if it incorporated this look as well. I noticed on my last trip to Regina that office building on Broad and 11th is looking just like Broad St. Crossing. Stucco. Keep it in the burbs.

That doesn't make much sense to me, since there is already an x-ray lab in the Normanview Mall.

There was a leader post article a while ago about the hotel on dewdney. There was supposed to be 2 but after the stadium got cancelled on the cp site, it became only 1. It seems like the developer( who is saskatoon based) thought he would get a jump on it but that plan sure back fired, i say it never gets built until cp lands are re-developed. Its a sheraton four points, so expect stucco, nothing like canetbury commons sadly

I believe that is for a new ramp for the Arts Center, I haven't heard of more going in there.

Hey djforsberg! I agree, it's great to see Regina's population at it's all time high and still increasing! Not that I'm obsessed with whether Regina's population will surpass Saskatoon's, nor am I the type to take a hairy fit if it never surpasses it again! And I know it will probably be a very long time before the populations of each city settle out more or less evenly (like Calgary and Edmonton!) ... Hence my (silly face)!

Saskatoon, being home to my alma mater, U of S, has all but captured my fondness long ago, and at the time of my studies there I made it my home! I'll admit I may now be sort of yearning for some of what makes up Saskatoon to be a part of my current home, Regina! Regina and Saskatoon are two great cities, both very similar and different at the same time! I always think it's neat (in a nice way) to think of the friendly rivalry between the two, and to express (even if implicitly) what great, desirable cities they are and have become!
