^ read the article. There's far more at stake than design issues.

City council. Earn your pay and get this done!
Eh, might I suggest you slow down there. It looks like no-one is coughing up the money. If Katz wants it built, he would get that money himself. This game of chicken plays both ways.

That's because many have no idea how big deals like this are 'negotiated'.

The arena will go ahead. We'll likely get an arena that is not an 'architectural wonder' but a well designed one. All I ask for is that we get a new arena downtown that is designed to fit within the context of the community and contribute to a great destination for people to enjoy.

I am in utter disappointment right now.

That is a giant load of 🞵🞵🞵🞵.

It's become obvious that this whole process has been a fiasco, because one party has no experience negotiating with a civic government and the other party decided to fold their best hand, then go all in on 2's and 3's. It's a mess Chris, no sugar coating will fix that

Some people are speculating that maybe a new CBA between the NHL and NHLPA might be playing a role in this. But that would imply there's even a CBA ready to be signed.

Wait....wait I have a Idea.

Why dont us guys go on a bottle drive for Mr Katz.

And maybe are woman folk can put on a bake sale to generate more cash for Katz.

I use to be a big fan of Katz....but man this guy is becoming a PR/Business mess.

Im a liberal thinker with a touch of conservatism but what I have seen heard and read about this deal makes me have doubts about Katz!!

Both parties are to blame certainly for the terrible way this has gone but if the city was able to get that money and here I am bringing in the provincial government as well because they have shown absolutely no leadership we may have averted the fiasco that was yesterday's meeting to begin with.

The city and the province have not been able to work out a way to put in 100 million?

Ridiculous and if this gets cancelled because of that it would be typical of how small minded this city and province are

guys, cut the 🞵🞵🞵🞵 about this being an Edmonton thing. Many arenas and stadiums that envolve some form of public money take years to negotiate the cost sharing. Hell, look at Hamilton with the Ivor Wynne....they were being GIVEN all the money and they spent years fighting over where it should go. Pittsburg took something like ten years to replace the igloo and then there is the islanders..

On the other hand, look at how quickly they're moving with the arenas in Quebec City and Seattle

Read - We'll get an arena that is underwhelming and lower-end but it will still look alright and function adequately.

That's the Edmonton way alright.

You mean the same seattle that had the Sonics leave because they couldnt get their shit together when it came to building a new arena?

It's easy for Quebec city. They are building it with money Alberta gave them.

At this point, I'd take something like the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh over no new arena at all. No, it doesn't look like the proposed Edmonton arena does, but it's not like it's the Rogers Arena in Vancouver either.

Built for $350M in 2012 dollars.

A lot of the cost differential for Edmonton is labour. Only so far you can value engineer the materials until you have to start removing amentities to get even close to the cost of building an arena like Consol in a depressed labour market with a much larger pool of skilled labour that is sitting idle instead of working in fab yards.

Exactly. Built in a different time, in a different city, with different material and labour prices.

No slam dunk here. Any good contract has cancellation clauses in it.

Glad to see you have the inside scoop on the negotiations to purport that it's a "mess".
