I'm not sure i understand your question. What is built is a 6 storey, 160 unit building on Sterling Lyon Parkway.

Are you thinking of Heritage Landing on Assiniboine? that is 25 storeys and 209 units.

okkkk never mind crystal construction is working on a both grand lyon and heritage landing so they were probably referring to the heritage landing projects but thats no where near 50 percent complete so i dunno

I had a discussion today with someone involved in the SHED planning... he had the following information regarding the city place lot:

1. The building will be mixed use, including residential, retail and a public use area
2. The West side of City place will be opened up so shops will be accessible from both inside and from the street
3. There are hopes of redeveloping the Carlton Inn into something other than a cheap hotel.

Sounded like more information should be public soon.

this is such great news, I wrote them about this a few months ago but never heard back.

I'd love for them to open up the east side and along Graham as well.

That almost never works out. You have to police both a front door and a back door entrance. Portage place theoretically had the same idea.

I think in theory the idea is you try and turn the corridor into a bit of a shopping district. This will hopefully bring in more people downtown, which will lead to existing stores (PP, the bay, city place) having better luck.

In Thunder Bay's experience, stores that have an entrance on both sides of the building eventually get sick of using their store as a shortcut to the other side, and will lock one of the doors to prevent that, essentially meaning that the less travelled side just becomes a wall of windows advertising stores that are only accessible if you walk around the block.

I cant see the existing tenants (CIBC, medical clinic, MLCC, Orthodontist) on the west side of City Place getting opened up to the street but I have heard that they are going to open up the mall entrance that was removed during the last major renovation about 10 / 15 years ago.

If I recall properly part of the reason was to allow street access from the parking lot to the new restaurant going in on the second floor.
