Nothing new here; just a short article saying they're pushing back the opening date to Early 2014. This is going to be so awesome when it opens, and I cannot wait to take my (will be 2 1/2 year old) son to this when it opens.

Keep going Winnipeg. Believe it or not, this city is going to have many attractions for visitors of all types... family attractions, shopping attractions, history attractions, national museum (say what you want about the whole debacle, its still going to be a big deal), CFL/NHL, further improvements / construction downtown, expanded convention Centre.

its clear the city wants to establish its self as a tourist destination.. if we can build a one of kind world class indoor water park as well, it would only further solidify our position as first class tourist destination. seasons of tuxedo , journey to churchhill, wpg jets, canadian human rights museum, the mint expansion, concert hall, new inuit exhibit expansion at the art gallery, new blue bomber stadium, etc...

its clear that the city's goal is to attract more students and people from around canada, an increase in tourism could help boost our economy significantly. There's a reason there's such a huge increase in hotels being made in the city recently.

^We are all waiting for that. Nothing is concrete yet, but I expect a waterpark will be built at Seasons of Tuxedo at some point.

But seeing Assiniboine Park transforming is great already, and just seeing this new Arctic themed exhibit at the zoo is icing on the cake. I'm sure this will be worth the wait once it's finished.

man i am losing my patience lol i really want to find out what the plans for the mpi lots and the convention center expansion are. I wonder if they will release renderings for both projects at the same time!!!!! Both projects have to fit really well together they have to have some level of cohesion because they are so close in proximity.

im surprised most people in winnipeg havent really noticed the amount of change and development that is going on in the city. Every time i read the comments from the freepress and winnipeg sun all i hear is negativity. People always talking about how shitty winnipeg is, how many of these projects wont work or their stupid for investing here and it really pisses me off. People have no faith in this city, But i really hope that people start being proud of peg again and start supporting these ideas and projects as much as they can. Im glad yes winnipeg and other organizations have the vision and the belief in this city because without them many of these projects wouldn't be possible.

Over the last couple of days I decided to rid myself of boredom and try to come up with an idea for Parcel four. So what I have come up with so far, is a plot and part of a design for one of the many buildings.



The plot represents three segments divided by pedestrian roads all meeting at a square, which could have a pond, field or leisure rink. Hot Dog venders would be free to set up shop where ever. Store fronts would line the streets. Buskers would come and go as they please. I have always felt Winnipeg needs a pedestrian strip, so why not create one on Parcel Four? I am not an urban designer nor an architect, so please only constructive criticism rather than straight out insults. So far I only have half the facade of the South East corner finished on one set. Here it is.



The white is unfinished area, and the building is no where near completion, but I thought I might ask for some feedback before going any further. The main floor closest to you is a restaurant with the cantilever overtop an outdoor patio area. There will be multiple storefronts along all sides of all of the buildings. With the second and third floors (closest to you) being condo's. To the south (left) of the Condo's is a second story rooftop patio for another restaurant. I still have a ways to go, but I am trying to include the multipurpose aspect as much as I can. This is only 1 of 3-6 buildings on the plot. I was thinking of putting a tower on top of this as well, however I am not sure. If so I don't know how big or tall it should be.

Also the red is way brighter than I had intended it to be. Maxwell took the materials and really brightened them up, so some editing may be needed there as well.

If the Cantilever is too big (which I am assuming it is) I was thinking of veiling multiple random clone formation posts as a modern piece of artwork for support somewhere in the middle.

Something like this, but round, metal clad, and on a much smaller scale.

Agree, like wtf. JamieDavid Exchange - you are aware that you're definitely outnumbered when it comes to "all development is great" (you) vs. "only great development is great" (everyone else) on here, right? Also, Bryan Scott is a very very valuable contributor to this forum and to local Winnipeg internet sites. You might want to try google some day.

Zoning and bylaws aside, that is one fugly house. There will be more of this on streets like Montrose which are a mixed bag of house styles and sizes - 60s 70s bungalows which have larger lots will become a reno op and will be rebuilt / extended into much larger houses

I sketched this one out for parcel 4 on the bus the other day, ignore the fact it was on a bumpy bus, i had no straight edges, and am a terrible drawer to begin with.........

Its tough to see the lettering and numbering but they correspond with what type of building and its height.

No more parks.

Parcel 4 needs REAL development that will bring people to the core on a full time basis. There is already more than enough green space around the Forks.
