Now that I've seen this rendering it looks better than the line drawing. The cladding detail and the roof element look like something straight out of South Beach.

I like this one more today, than I did yesterday.

I wish the public here in Calgary could get as detailed documents as you guys do in Toronto. The stuff we usually get our hands on (mostly development permits that are scheduled for city council) is very low-quality and more use-oriented than design-oriented.

For example, it's so simple to just search 'Yorkville 29' and 'design' and the urban design brief pops right up...

yep. I think that (alongside the mechanical treatment) are the most worrisome things about this project.

From a design POV, the colour scheme/material look of the podium doesn't go too bad with the aesthetics of the tower, however, that is not to say that proportion wise, it's pretty massive even compared to the towers.


Aside from that, really really sick seeing this Yorkville boom!

I'd be impressed if they were in the Entertainment district but these don't suit Yorkville imo. Now, a design that exploited layered glass and other contemporary metallic elements with old world proportions and details might be an interesting route to go. The towers are not bad but I think the podium needs more class.

It's hard to tell what the podium will look like, but it's really only the north and south facades that one will see. Other buildings will eventually abut right up against this podium on both sides.

Those decorative bands are actually structural details within the cladding of the tower. That along takes this building far beyond your run of the mill entertainment district condo tower. With the exception of :

Andrew, look at where the structural elements of the cladding, the base of the tower and the podium connect.

What ever they are, they form part of the building's shape.

Oh wow they actually do seem to form part of the actual structure... how interesting! I'd love to see a more detailed render of this. I love it so far though

There is no information right now. It's all just speculation and rumour at this point. We may not see a significant development here for several years.

Leftcoaster will have a better idea of this topic. This project is beyond the rumor or speculate stage. This project is a project that is actively being work on.

This is why I value Leftcoaster and his knowlege of projects because he is in the industry. We should be thankfully that we have him to give us insight on various projects.
