I live closeby to 14th st and 10th ave, I'll have to check it out one day while walking the dog.

I was walking on the Highline yesterday and noticed a new project I'd never heard of before on 24th Street. Looks like a 10 story condo will rise on this plot. The design looks pretty boring though.

Massing Diagrams from the DOB website:

Edit: maybe the facade will turn out to be interesting?

Bonus shot of the fairly recently completed Hotel Americano from The Highline. I think the mesh screen turned out to be kind of interesting on this building.

From the side:

In the background (not sure what is happening in the foreground, future development site?):

^^ I'll have to get a better shot of this sometime from this location, I was indiscriminately snapping photos, ha.

Yeah, the one on 14th and 10th is odd, since the Highline passes directly over the lot it's hard to imagine anything being built above the Highline unless a new building was built on stilts above the Highline. As usual, great photos by the way.

Something to keep an eye on, not sure if it deserves its own thread...

New Hotel Tower Proposed for Historic Nomad District
Tuesday, August 21, 2012, by Dave Hogarty

"There's a new hotel in the works for Fifth Avenue above Madison Square, according to Mad Park News, if permission is granted for a 23-story tower to piggyback on the McKim Mead, & White bank at the corner of Fifth and 28th Street within the landmarked Madison Square North Historic District. The extant bank building would be kept primarily as is, but a 23-story tower with no progressive setbacks would be placed back from the avenue along 28th Street, with an initial setback of 15 feet from the street face. There is some criticism about the proposed design—outlined at Cityland——but building owners Quartz Associates LLC have employed Platt Byard Dovell and White to design the project. The firm has some experience working with landmarks and architecturally significant buildings, including the New York Historical Society home on Central Park West."

Here is a planned project for 135 East 79th Street by the Brodsky Corp. The building is replacing an ugly outdated school of social work which has been demolished. Not sure if this one is actually under construction yet.

Another infill site has restarted. This is Galerie 515 Hotel + Condos on 9th Avenue just south of the Port Authority Building. The design is "meh", but its an area that needs some filler.

Now one floor up and rising...

304 Fifth Avenue looks like it will become a narrow 15 story sliver building (according to the DOB). I found this rendering online, not sure if it is what will actually rise here:

And the site:

241 Fifth Avenue is shaping up much nicer than its neighbor to the north (319 Fifth Avenue). The building was designed by ODA and will rise 20-stories when complete. So far the cladding looks quite nice.

Here some renderings (from the ODA website):

And the construction progress:

555 6th Avenue is getting a much needed makeover, also by the design firm ODA.

I'm glad someone finally found a rendering for 241 5th, looks like decent filler at the worst. Edit: Here's another rendering.

http://www.madparknews.com/business/cons...rth-of-madison-square-park-at-241-fifth/

I can't believe that 304 5th is actually being developed. I was just up there and walked by and thought even for NY it was too narrow, and was hoping/expecting the developer would combine that site with the Iris Nail building next door and tear it down and build something.

ODA does nice work, so it should turn out nicely. Nice to see a full rendering of the building - solid filler indeed.

It will be interesting to see what happens to 304 5th Ave - looks like DOB permits are filed for construction, but there is currently a stop work order on the property.

Update on a couple Kaufman Hotel 'specials' on West 37th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue.

On the north side of the street, one is currently being clad... somehow. TBD how it will turn out. I believe this tower is 20-stories. There are no renderings that I know of... here are some photos I took:

On the south side of the street, another hotel is well under construction. There was a frenzy of activity on the foundation when I walked by. The address is 312 W 37th Street and believe completed tower will be around 20-stories.

A few renderings (source):

A few photos I snapped:

Update on the Chelsea Seminary condo conversion. They are rehabbing the existing historic stone building and then building an new structure next door. I walk by this project often since I live in the neighborhood. I think it will turn out nice.

Rehab of existing structure:

Beginning the excavation and foundation for the new structure:

Here are a few renderings from Curbed of the new building under construction:

Vertical steel going up on 433 Broadway on Howard St, for this:

http://rktb.com/projects/commercial/433-broadway

And there's a pilling machine at Wooster and Grand, on the South West corner. Looks like that empty lot could finally be getting developed.

Here's a few pictures of Steel going up on Broadway and Howard. I walked a few times earlier this summer and there was no activity at the site on weekdays, which was suspicious. But it could be just a temporary pause.

I passed the future site of the NYU School of Nursing on First Avenue and ~26th Street. Looks like site prep is already underway as there were several active excavators on site, which looks consistent to the schedule posted online:
  • Phase 1: Mobilization and security of site: spring of 2012
  • Phase 2: Building's foundation work: spring 2012 through spring 2013
  • Phase 3: Concrete/steel phase: spring 2013-summer2013
  • Phase 4: Building fit out: summer 2013-December of 2014

Here are a few renderings:

The project will be 11 stories, and some much needed infill on this rather drab section of 1st Avenue. More info HERE (pdf warning).

I passed this Gwathmey Siegel (apparently his last before his death) project on Central Park South and 24th Street:

It is a 10-story condo building, and is now one story above street level. I couldn't snap any photos because I was on the bus.
