I know one of those people at the bottom of the pyramid (or near it) who works at the Convention Centre. I'll see what she knows. If her info and your info check out, then we're all good!

Either way, the construction industry is just cooking right now in town... I think some of the major projects would need to wrap up before contractors have people to bid on the CC. Maybe not... but I know that my Brother's company (Based in Vancouver) is bidding on Electrical contracts for large projects in Manitoba now; partly because they're expanding, and but mostly because the work is available.

Demolition work begins this week on the University of Winnipeg’s McNamara Hall to make way for the new Field House, Health, Wellness and Healing Complex.

Crews will be working on Spence Street, with the demolition of the brick building at 359 Young Street to follow in September.

An official sod-turning for the new complex is expected in early September, in conjunction with the U of W’s 2012 Homecoming.

A number of detours and reroutes will be in effect during the demolition process, including changes to Winnipeg Transit’s campus service and access to green space and pedestrian walkways.

For a complete list of changes, visit UWinnipeg.ca.

So, with the UofW demolishing some buildings to make way for the new soccer complex, does that mean a previous released proposal for this development at Colony and Ellice may be pushed through????

The building is to provide a dynamic experience for all aspects of the university life; educational, social, and cultural. The concept grew out of the contained site conditions, building program, and location within the urban context. The site is flanked by major vehicular route along Colony Street with the pedestrian area of the mai
n campus to the west. The building 'begins' as a dynamic curved facade of glass and activity following the street, until it breaks apart into nine storey terraced green space at the pedestrian entrance. The Balmoral facade has a recessed walkway and two overhead links to the main campus. Inside the building is organized around a nine story covered courtyard, bringing light and animation to all functions of the project.

the U of W field house's final design is nicer than the image above...it developed pretty well.

the EOI for the art gallery expansion is garnering some amazing attention from the top architects around the world....it will be exciting to see who they choose.

Wow, I never realized it was that big of a project. That is very exciting. It will be interesting to see what they will choose, in terms of contrasting with the existing building. I am guessing they are demolishing the existing building to the south of the WAG?

Anyone have anything on 226 Osborne? Other than the promotion video, it has been extremely quiet. That is another great proposal however, expanding on an existing building, as well as removing a parking lot. On top of that it is supposed to be commercial, office and residential. Multi-use at its best.

people you wanna know why the increase in govt funding lately on infrastructure and expansion and its real

winnipeg is starting to gain a lot of interest from private investors and the only way their willing to invest in the city is if they can see the city is doing whatever it can to protect thier interests.. the only reason and believe me this is from one of my cousins who works in banks and deals with 500 thousand to 100 million dollar club.. Well apparantly the only way alt hotel would close the deal and invest in the city and same with ikea and theres more suitors out there i mean lots... was if the city showed that it would do what it could to make their investment work.. alt wanted the govt to revamp all of dt improve saftey everything or they wouldn't invest a dime.. allot of private investors are gonna jump on board on the mpi lots and convention center expansino.. the city is putting millions into infrastructure and expanding schools hospitals everything because the govt see a potential boom here that the city hasnt had but first the private partners want to build that trust that this city lost a long time ago.. theres a reason why theres such a huge rush going on for change

new airport
expansions of 7 oaks, miscercordia, hsc
stadium
museum
convention center
new bridges, roadways
assinaboine park
development of mpi lots
expansion of the royal canadian mint
expansion of u of w u of m red river college
renovation and expansion of pantages
new artwork, investment in parks and street statues
center port canada

and this is just from govt in the last 5 years the push is on... the private investors and jobs are gonna come and thier already signing on..

alt
lowes
ikea
target
famous dave
5 guys

is just a small sample of whats to come

this 100 percent real source.... and the only way tax payers need to understand this that the only way center port, ikea alt the winnipeg jets is gonna work in the long term is if there is a hunder percent over haul of the city.. and thats what ur slowly gonna see. its tax funded for now but soon the big boys are gonna be rolling in and winnipeg is gonna be like this what we should of been a hundred years ago

Seconded. Amazing photo's.

Bryan, was that a hot air balloon or helicopter? Looks like it would be amazing to get up there.

Is it just me, or does it feel like Winnipeg uses a lot more space for its Grade Separated interchanges than for instance, south west Ontario. How much would it cost for Winnipeg to invest in this style of Overpass?

But with the on-off's on both sides. The 401 hardly ever uses clover leafs. It almost always uses these, or reversed. That is unless you're talking about the ones in Toronto that really seem to have no pattern but zigzag all over, some times at least 60 feet high. I love driving through there, makes me feel like I am in a mini LA.

^ awesome shots. So vividly green in the residential areas.

(Possible stupid question warning)
Are those taken thru the windows in the plane, or is it some sort of special plane that allows for an unobstructed opening to take photos?
