I again had to slam on my brakes while going (only 90 this time) in the left lane due to a left-turner onto one of those gravel roads. If we can't afford a freeway upgrade now, then at bare minimum, how about using some of that grassy median to make a few left turn lanes?
There really needs to be an aggressive push to get some federal money NOW to improve the route between CCW and Highway 75, including the purported 'St Norbert Bypass.' If Centreport is going to be built on manufacturing, trade and transportation, this needs to be started now. Look how long its taking to build just one interchange (59/101). I can appreciate the fact that provincial resources are tied up with CCW and highway renewal (which is great), but even if just for mere safety reasons, some upgrades along the south Perimeter are warranted.

Yeah, the PTHY is not very safe at all, and there are tons of upgrades that are not only needed to bring it up to modern standards but more importantly to prevent stupid accidents than can (and have) claimed lives.
We talked in great length about this in another thread and it always seems to keep coming up. Its something I believe other posters have said the MB Gov't is aware of, but it isn't their priority at the moment.
I feel much of that has to do with the perceived lack of importance (its functioning after all isn't it?) along with an actual lack of needed funds. There were some rough calculation estimates that went around and it seemed mightily expensive overall. Problem is these expenses will only keep going up with every passing year.
I think the MB Gov't is more focused on twinning other sections of the Trans Can and updating Provincial roads right now - which is also important - and once that is finished they can (and hopefully will) shift focus to the Perimeter.
Another thing is, if one notices the Perimeter is really only "well built" around the city of Winnipeg/RM boundaries. If the proposed annexation of land inside of the Perimeter Highway to the city of Winnipeg ends up happening, then there is a better chance of the development happening because the city will have a more invested interest in developing the roads (including street side night lights and all that stuff)
