I was wondering the same thing. Nobody in my crowd (Either personal or work acquaintances) talk about going to Bangor or Moncton. I hear of people every now and then going to Halifax for an overnight or two. (Specifically Dartmouth Crossing) But that's it really.

I know of a few people that drive to Bangor for shopping. I don't know why they do it, I guess they get a thrill out of going somewhere exotic to get their things as opposed to others who buy locally. I guess they're kind of the same people that talk incessantly about shopping at places like Costco.

I know some people travel to Freeport to shop because it has couple famous brands of outlet stores with better price. Staying more than 2 days, you may save a lot on the duty.

Shopping in ME?

I still don't have a passport yet. The only reason I'd get one is to travel overseas once I save some moola, or go see a concert. I've seen very few good deals that would justify the expense to shop in Maine. Like GregHickman said, maybe they just want to go somewhere "exotic". Outlet stores don't impress me much either.

Between Freeport and Portland you get a lot of stores that don't have a presence around here. Bangor is a different story though.

Oliver is correct in regards to Freeport. There are some stores there that you would have to travel quite a distance to find otherwise. Portland is just flatout a larger city than Bangor, and thus has more to offer.

Considering that Bangor only has a metro roughly similar to the size of NB's three cities it's really odd that people make the drive to simply buy the same things that they can here for a slightly reduced price without taking into consideration duty or the cost of gas.

A lot of people like to vacation in New England and the shopping is just a bonus. My girlfriend and I have gone to NE (usually Maine, but also Mass and Rhode Island) once or twice a year for the past few years now.

Right, because you shop only at locally owned stores that sell locally produced products?

Funny that you guys are jumping down my throat when you get so excited for the Corbit Center expansion in Freddy or the East Point Shopping Center in SJ...which just paves over nature and is a made-for-car shopping center. I shop downtown all the time. I stay in New Brunswick...I cant help it if my province sells out to urban sprawl and the big box way of life :/

Thumbs up

St. Hubert in KV is opening on Tuesday, September 11. They are having a job fair on August 17 & 18.

PetValu.com

Also I heard a rumor that the reason the St. Huberts in KV hasn't opened yet is because they went over budget when building it, so they have to find a new owner. Not sure how much truth there is to that though.

Hey everyone. It's been three years since I've been up here in Saint John to visit family. It feels like the city is missing the swagger it had three years ago, although it looks like the city is holding on the the gains it made. I'll be running the marathon on Sunday--can't wait to get a tour of the city like none other.

On a more positive note regarding East Point Shopping, for what its worth, according to a clerk working in a store at East Point, H&M could take over former Pseudio vacant space. She also pointed out the ongoing rumor about Wal Mart going up.

The Gap Outlet is starting to revamp the old Urban Planet location.

Just heard today that Princess Auto walked away from a potential deal with Plaza Corp.
Seems as though they couldn't get things worked out?
Too bad really.
The Kent store for Saint John West is still on schedule. They are trying to finish up a few things with city hall. Hope city hall doesn't screw this up!
Possible Boston Pizza coming west as well?
Maybe the golden mile will be golden once again?

Harvey's is now open on the corner of McAllister/Westmorland.

Location on Rothesay Ave is now closed.

I hope Boston Pizza does come west. I think with Walmart opening in the fall in Lancaster Mall it's only a matter of time before a Resturant is built across the street between the Mall and Lawtons as it's zoned for that.

I am quite surprised to be honest, if there is a store that Saint John would have been able to support is a Princess auto considering the demographic mainly blue-collar.

There is no reason not to believe that Newbrunswick's largest city wouldn't be able to support this store.
This was a deal that just couldn't get done so they walked away?
Maybe they will try again?
