Well let's see: They should hit street level by the end of the year. The floors are quite small so I say late 2014 / early 2015 this one should be topped out if there are no delays.

After just checking the site for the first time just now, it seems that our trusty drill crew worked O/T today. As of now, the drill is currently on the last of the five footing pads, closest to the southeast corner footing that was cast on Friday. At the close of the workday Friday when I last looked, the drill was on the second pad. It is not known by me if the current pad that the drill is now located on has been drilled or not. But in any case, tendon installation is imminent, and may commence soon.

Update:

On the skyscraper city site, a forum member noted the Hitachi excavator by the 56th Street perimeter wall was in action today. I looked at the 57th Street cam, and see that machine with the hydraulic hammer, so footings are now being excavated along that wall.

I can't wait to see this one rise. It's great to see two of NY's best looking buildings being constructed and completed within 2 years of each other

Two of the city's tallest in opposite locations of Manhattan with the Empire State Building in the center of all the action!

That's the way it should be -- taller towers surrounding the classic ESB.

The greatest compliment to the city, the skyline and the neighboring areas (Jersey, Brooklyn, Queens) -- imagine if we can get a supertall in Queens !!

Another workweek, another Monday on the job.

Preparations begin for placing tendons into the five south tower pads. The drill is working on the last of the tower pads, grouting mixers have been placed, along with the bags of cement. Forms may be stripped from the west wall that was cast last week.

How long are those tendons? It looks like they got a delivery for the 5 southern pads.

As the drill makes its way out of the site, the last of the tower pads have been drilled, and the tendon installation has begun. The mini-excavator appears to be backfilling around the core footing, and the larger Hitachi 850 was breaking rock adjacent to the 56th Street perimeter wall for footings there.

The barricades on 56th Street are being relocated, so concrete delivery will be for the new footing adjacent to the perimeter wall that was excavated earlier. The mini-excavator continuies with backfilling against the core footing, most likely in preparation for pouring another section of slab on grade after waterproofing membrane is installed. The triple-boom Hitachi continues with tendon installation, which might be its final tasks at this site.

Today's job report:

Tendon installation continues on the south footing pads. Those footings should be formed soon. The smaller excavator is currently backfilling the void within the core footing. My thoughts were that they would have dewatered the void before backfilling. Earler, this excavator backfilled along the north side of the core footing. It is my guess that preparations may begin for pouring another section of the slab on grade. Forms are being stripped from the west walls cast last week.

And now, as I write, the final tendon is being installed.

The large air compressor that was used during tendon installation was lifted from its longtime home in the corner by the perimeter wall and set on the bench above. It will be moved off site, as the excavator at street level is awaiting the return of the flatbed truck. Trash skips were loaded aboard the flatbed truck earlier for removal.

On the job today:

This morning, concrete was poured for the footing along the 56th Street perimeter wall. In the space vacated by the large air compressor yesterday, the rebar crew is now located, with rebar bending table and rebar. They were previously located where the new footing poured this morning is now located. Parging (the black coating that is painted onto the concrete, which is a water barrier) is being applied to the west walls whose forms were stripped yesterday. A load of lumber was delivered, seen near the south footing pads, to be used for forming those footings, which are currently being formed. Workers are working within the core void that was backfilled yesterday, and also placing plywood for forms around the rebar protruding from the core footing. The mini-excavator was relocated from the core. Piping was installed just above the core footing that will be beneath the slab when poured.

More concrete on site being poured as of now, looks like it is for 4 smaller sections in the core.

Four small pads within the core footing are currently being filled with concrete. The forms for these were previously assembled on the backfilled area, and lined with waterproofing membrane. The concrete is being placed from the street via one excavator transferring concrete from one concrete bucket to another bucket being delivered to the forms by the triple-boom Hitachi. The southwest corner of the site has been cleared of debris.

Rebar is visible on the far west wall, where the worker on the manlift is currently working. Formwork construction continues on the south footing pads.

Hope you folks aren't tired of my updates!! Must be "dignitary day". On the Park Avenue webcam, there's a line of people against the guard rail just inside the jobsite gate watching the action and progress. Don't you wish you were there??
