Not to mention the costs of monitoring and potential remediation/containment.

The freeway system will never be complete. Too many intersections controlled by traffic lights.

ya i dont really mind traffic lights but ya some spots especially down route 90 going south in tuxedo shit is rediculous they need to create more lanes and get rid of that speed cam..

but u gotta admit the north east is looking nice

east kildonan the roads are disgusting.. but the areas further from the core are nice.... its the same story across the board. winnipeg is really nice looking in the north west north east south west south east and the closer u get to the core the uglier it gets.

They need bus-only lanes. And a Route 78 that doesnt try to cover every square inch of that area... force the people in "White Ridge" to get out of their cars...

SW, SE, NW, NE = suburbs.

Point Douglas looks like hell. St Boniface isnt bad. West End is good with roads. North En, no idea. Windsor park is absolutely shitty. River Heights not bad either!

Windsor Park winter sidewalk maintenance is deplorable, at best.

Now when the old station sites are sold, they are already cleaned up to Govt. standards if not better as no mortgage company wants to put money into a troubled site.

It's also probably one of the most walkable suburbs in the city, with a good mix of commercial and institutional, and a network of paths/connections that was before its time. It's also in a pretty good location, not too far from downtown, but close to major arteries and shopping. Not sure why it gets a bad rap...

l Live on Kingston Row, and our streets are the shits, yet we pay or one of the highest taxes around. Yet I go to the North End on some skallwag infested street and they are putting in a brand new road, not just resurfacing it.

As for Windsor Park, I see nothing wrong with it. It is only people who have no clue how to Navigate it that have issues, it is like South St V with all its idiot Bays and Cul du sacs and dead end streets etc. But if anyone thinks windsor park is what it was say 15 years ago they are very wrong, the place is now very sought after for people buying homes. Back in 1999 a bungy cost $70K, that same Bungy now is going into bidding wars no less and fetching $290K, call my bluff, well remember my wifes a realtor. And I personally like Windsor park for all its bike paths etc. Now cross the road to Southdale and PUKE.

Inner city areas are getting new streets because the city has little to no choice, the services under the road are in bad shape and must be repaired. The 1950s suburbs are just starting to get to that point so their roads are absolutely shitty, but not really requiring a total re-built of the entire street and its utilities. Even in Thunder Bay, its the new subdivisions and the inner city that get the bulk of the road work, while the areas built between 1945 and 1990 are neglected.

As per Dictonary.com ( http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/freeway)

free·way
   [free-wey]

noun

an express highway with no intersections, usually having traffic routed on and off by means of a cloverleaf.

I'm sorry, but there is not one freeway in Winnipeg. It just pisses me off when people refer to some of our routes in Winnipeg as freeways. Winnipeg should concentrate their efforts in building a world class rapid transit system now that they failed in laying out a high speed surface road transportation grid.

PS
Event the Perimeter Highway has fricken traffic lights on it!

As a distribution centre, Winnipeg needs freeways. If we want this sector to grow, a la cent report, we need to ensure excellent flow.

Kingston Row was built in 1915, I think it qualifies lol. It was the only way using the Elm Park bridge to get from St V to Fort Rouge.

Sorry for the double post, but the north section of the perimeter is actually traffic light free now and all clover leafs. And once they finish the 59 intersection, which was a cloverleaf once it will be all the way to Dugald Rd then.
