How is Denver a better choice? Bigger city. More International skiers come to Denver. Far more traffic in mountains and day trippers for recreation. Must be a reason that the retail group is considering us over you! We also have a bigger CC and far more hotels! More flights. I could go on and on. As far as your much smaller hills being closer, big deal! As already mentioned, we have far more people leaving the city and driving up into the mountains on any given day!
A matter of numbers really! It has probably outgrown slc. Or maybe they are using it as leverage to get you to up your game! Like an NFL team threatening to leave a city if they don't throw some money into the deal!

You have no idea why the retail group is looking else where. So how about you get off your high horse before you sound like an even bigger ass.

"Bigger city". They don't care. Bigger does not necessarily mean better.
"More International skiers" They don't care.
"More traffic in mountains" They don't care. "Since when was "Traffic" a good thing?
"Bigger City Center" Again, they don't care. Bigger does not necessarily mean better.
"More Hotel" Yes that is the main issue. However all they need is ONE large hotel, not necessarily more hotels. "More Hotel Space" would of been the correct statement.
"More flights" They don't care.

What a weak argument. What's next, you're going to use "oh we also have taller buildings" as a argument? Please.
If you're just going to use the...."we're bigger" as a argument then lets just have them move to Chicago since that was also on their list and Chicago is way bigger then Denver.
All they care about is that they need more Hotel space. ( A convention Hotel. ) and more convention space. That's really the only two minor issues. If Salt Lake can address those two issues then Salt Lake is their top pick. And they have stated time and time again that they prefer to STAY here in SLC. The ball is in Salt Lake's court.

Re-read my post bud! I mentioned Hotels! And they DO care about bigger cities! Notice that every city they are thinking about moving to are much bigger than slc? More flights and more people means more potential costumers! The argument about "20 minutes outside of slc" is so old! I dare you to drive 20 minutes outside the western suburbs of Denver and tell me what you are in! I will give you a hint......... Mountains! Your city is ringed by mountains in the 10,000 foot range. We are ringed (western side I should say) by 14,000 footers! Almost a mile taller!
Denver a "bad" choice? Please! They have been mentioning moving to Denver for the last few years! They must see what most people do. Denver is the bigger and better choice! Hope it happens soon!

Re-read my post. I mentioned Hotel space. Nobody cares that Denver has more Hotels BUILDINGS. They just need ONE large 1000+ room hotel. Good for you if you have more hotel BUILDINGS. They don't want to be in a ton of different buildings.
Also it just shows how narrow your thinking really is if you keep bringing up how high your mountains are. You do released that there's alot more to the retail shows then just winter skiing right?
If you are just going to keep going off of "bigger city" then again let's just move them to Chicago. Besides they have even More flights and even more people means even more potential costumers!
Furthermore, the main reason people attend the OR shows is because of the "products" they find. It has nothing to do with how big a city is or how high the mountains are.

Only question I have then ...why isn't it already in Denver? They must be using different criteria than you.

Good question! We may have to find that reason and fix it!

Why are we feeding the troll?

We've had the OR here for years, and I'm pretty confident SLC will do what needs to be done to keep here. They don't want to leave, I don't think they really intend to leave either. We've been down this road before. SLC needs the new hotel, not just for the OR, but they're helping to prove the need.
We've hosted the Olympics. SLC is known as an outdoor destination. Our mountains, resorts and airport are all more accessible than any other American city. We have no need to feel inferior to Denver because some asshole from there came on the forum to try and start an argument.

I have a feeling this Denver/SLC discussion has stopped being constructive and started being destructive.

Can't we all just get along?

I'm not trying to debate. I don't want to debate. I want to go back to your own city's forum unless your have something valid to contribute. No one wants to get into another dick-measuring contest with Denver.

Denver may have a fitter body, so to speak, but Salt Lake City definitely has the prettier face. Therefore our potential is greater. All we need is a gym membership

I think one thing salt lake city has going for it is it's proximity to the airport. It's 5min (aprox) by car, and soon it will likely be 10 min (aprox) by light rail. Another thing salt lake has going for it is its proximity to not only the mountains, as has already been stated, but to our lakes and resivours too. Location, location, location!

Dude, we're not talking 20 minutes from our furthest suburbs. Twenty minutes from downtown and you're at the ski resort. DUH.

Denver's closest ski resort, Loveland, is 65 miles away and most are 180 miles away.

Denver is not as awesome as you think. Based on your criteria below, I'll spell it out for you.

So, in other words, you don't have very many more hotels than us.

Your convention space is only 5,000 s.f. more than ours.

Your ski resorts are not close enough to do any product demonstrations.

And they're vertical drops are in the same range as ours, plus we have the lake effect so our snow is a dryer, better powder than yours.

We have the largest ski resort in the U.S.

And we've had the Olympics prior, while Denver is an Olympic denier.

I wish this were like facebook and I could like your comment.

Additionally, after the 1,000 room convention hotel is built, we'll have the same number of hotel rooms as Denver.

Nice try!

Vail is the largest in the US!
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_largest_ski_resort_in_the_US

And the hotel numbers for downtown are not up to date!

Also, Eldora and Echo Mountain are both closer than 65 miles! Your batting average is not very good today!

Here is the wiki for your non-largest though in case you needed to brush up!

You know it's a bad day on this forum when another Denver-versus-Salt Lake battle takes place.

Ignore the troll. Change the topic. I'll start...

Has anyone else noticed all the bike taxi's downtown? There's also a strange blue thing I've seen twice that looks like a small barcycle.

No but there is a crazy looking 6 person bike thing where everyone faces then middle and peddles. You can rent it on west temple just outside of temple square.
