I'd rather the TTC spent money on Finch shuttle buses NOW as opposed to some glorified streetcar that will cost billions.

It's not a glorified streetcar, it's an LRT. One that dozens of major cities around the world use or are installing. Buses are such a backwards way to move people around. The people along Finch should be happy they are getting any upgrade when the money should have been used for a DRL first. Buses are loud, uncomfortable, and can't handle the numbers the new LRT cars can.

You seem to be preaching the same fear mongering methods of Rob Ford and a dwindling number of his suburban supporters.

Fixed typos, stupid I-Phone.

Pass-holders can board at any door on articulated buses. There are also significant portions of the the Transitway which are not grade-separated outside of downtown, particularly in the west end of the city.

LRT = glorified streetcar?

Tell that to all the major European cities that use them.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the exact difference between an LRT and a streetcar? I'm assuming LRT's run on different tracks and are higher capacity?

Typically LRT runs in segregated lanes (Spadina and Harbourfront lines for example).

Generally this is a streetcar:

and this is an LRT:

Just a question, but will ottawas LRT be all grade seperated, making it Canada's 4th metro?

So far, yes. It will be completely grade separated. Planning for phase II is not yet complete so it's still uncertain if it will be fully grade separated as well.

Awesome news, they are adding another station to the Evergreen Line, in the heart of Coquitlam's commercial district (where from the start I suggested there should be a station) via a P3 between the Federal Government, the owners of Coquitlam Centre Shopping mall, and i believe the city and or Province.

Here is a render of the new (6th) station as part of the Evergreen Line:

From the Evergreen Line Facebook Page.

Again, it makes me so happy that Metro-Vancouver is continuing to build a true metro system. Yay full grade separation! Makes transit feel so much more big city IMO.

I just realized today that Calgary's new west line is only at grade at 1 intersection... pretty cool. This line is very interesting for the city as it has both the city's first elevated station and the first underground station.

It's also worth noting, that while yes I concede that C-train is not a true metro, the sections of the system outside of downtown on the NW and South lines are basically fully grade separated. After Lions park station, the entire NW line is separated.

Also, love the news about Lincoln Station on the evergreen line. I already edited the transit section of Coquitlam Centre Mall's wikipedia page to include it haha

Sorry no. There is more than one on the West LRT. At-grade crossings are located at:
  • 7th Ave @ 11th St SW
  • Bow Trail @ 26th St SW (East of Shaganappi Point Stn)
  • 47th St SW (West of 45th St Stn)
  • Ramp from SB Sarcee Trail @ 17th Ave SW
  • Costello Blvd (West of Sirocco Stn)
  • Christie Park Gate SW

Hello

Here is a quick video I made today, these are just shots I am gathering in the hopes of making a big video later this year, but it is also fun to share them in the meantime.

This is from the skywalk above the Broadway Station platforms on the Canada Line:

Cheers!
