How tall are the buildings extending to the left of the skyline?

They would generally range from 12-21 storeys. There is one 24 in the background and a 35 u/c but only at floor 15.

Edmonton's is exactly as long as it appears. It may not be equally dense throughout, but there are towers from just West of 124st all the way to about 83rd street in the East. Even as the crow flies this is about 6km or so of skyline.

No clue on Vancouver or Montreal's.

.....and the skyline going the other way. Looking at these angles, and seeing the depth of Toronto's skyline, you can see how comparisons of Toronto's skyline to Chicago's aren't that far off.

I would say more around 3 kms as there isn't a whole lot of skyline east of 97th. All the way to 83rd would be around 4km. Still a pretty stretched out skyline, but Montreal's would be longer. Not sure about Vancouver.

Around 5 km for Montreal I think. (from Berri to Westmount Square) Not counting the highrises too far away (Radio-Canada and such)

EDIT #2: Again, for the sake of comparison, from the waterfront to St. Clair Ave (along Yonge St) in Toronto is 5.3 km, so I would suggest that Toronto is (not surprisingly) the clear winner in terms of skyline length.

E to W: Stanley Park (west edge) to Main Street (East Edge) 3.64 Kilometres.

S to N: Beach Avenue (South edge) to Canada Place (North Edge) 2.17 kilometres.

Interesting, Montreal's skyline "width" is 2km (as measured from notre-dame to tour transat). This makes the skyline 7.8 km2.

Ill give the Toronto Skyline only up to Belmont St. The rest is "Cheater Skyline".

That makes Toronto's N to S skyline 4.13 km, From the lake (south edge) to Belmont St (north edge).

And 4.1 Niagara Street (west edge) to Trinity street (east edge)

I'm confused, I already posted the Montreal skyline length above, it's 3.9km from westmount square to berri uqam metro. And that's west-east in Montreal island geography...

Calgary's dimensions make the skyline about 6.75 km2 (although admittedly it is a bit diamond shaped, and the "Mission skyline" is only ~25 floors high). That seems to accord with my impression of the scale of the two (very similarly scaled) skylines.

That's like saying LA's skyline goes all the way down Wilshire to Santa Monica, with only a few interruptions.

That's hardly a fair comparison, but I see your point.

There is actually a massive interruption in the "city-wide" skyline you speak of... between Keewatin Avenue and the 401... and several smaller but still significant interruptions at Summerhill, Mount Pleasant, and Davisville.

Each of the smaller breaks are only half a kilometer to a kilometer... but the big one is nearly 5 km. I'd hardly call that a small break in the skyline. This is considering all towers over 70 meters.
