Are the houses in Halifax's mid to outer suburbs any better than those in Scarborough, North York or Etobicoke? I wouldn't know as when I lived in Halifax I rarely ventured off the peninsula.

I'd say the biggest difference I notice between the suburbs is that in Toronto most of the houses are all or partially brick, while in NS, brick is very uncommon and only occasionally used for trim. I always marvel at how unusual it looks to my eye to see entire swaths of houses in Mississauga and Brampton that are nothing but brick. Although I'm not sure if the houses in the 416 suburbs are as brick as the 905 houses.
