I'm baffled that the article said "another giant skyscraper" It's as if they are implying that Oxford has already built or proposed a "giant skyscraper" in Toronto. If that were true we'd have a supertall.

God dammit. Now instead of a good and interesting design we'll have another 60-70 floor version of this:

It's almost like they're now actively trying to make Toronto as boring as possible.

RBC is under construction and is just shy of 1 million sqft.

There are extremely few 1 million sqft towers under construction at this time (I think Aura is the only one), so yes, giant is an appropriate term.

I think I'd like a tower that looked like a wood block with a giant Jenga logo on the side of it. Put a 200m tall lego block next to it.

You guys better hope I never have a billion dollars to blow.

No further details, and this is still rumour yet to be confirmed.

Last we heard of this project, the RAW design had been rejected.

Man that's a — tower!! Really like it.

Reminds me a bit of all the funky proposals in Paris in the pas few years.

It would have been a step up from the dull blue green — Concord Pacific has dropped on this city. As for the comment a few pages back about balconies being used to fake a buildings shape or form, they are part of the buildings shape and form.

Quite a few notches better than the rest of Concord Pacific's stuff in Toronto I'd say. I'd rather have those 2 buildings than what they did build.

None, the first mistake they made was having our dumb-— mayor and his brother endorsing the last design the city shot down.

I'd argue some of cityplace's buildings are among the best 20+ story buildings in the GTA from the second floor up (built in the last 5/10 years) ... I'm thinking about Luna and Montage ...

That means the top ten tallest buildings on the proposal chart are all from Ontario!!

Quote:
PROPOSALThe applicant is seeking planning approvals that would
permit the development of two hotel towers, a 60 storey,
222 metre tall hotel on the Niagara Falls Aviary property
(Parcel 1 as shown on the map to the right) and a 61
storey, 229 metre tall hotel on land holdings including the
Michael’s Inn property (Parcel 2). The proposed
development will include a wide range of ancillary uses
including retail stores, restaurants, entertainment uses, a
chapel and observation decks and will also include 5 atgrade
residential units fronting onto Blondin Avenue.
Parking for the development is to be provided in on-site
parking garages, with a portion of the required parking for
Parcel 1 provided on Parcel 2. A portion of the hotel
suites are proposed to have cooking facilities in them.
The two Parcels are proposed to be connected by a bridge
over Hiram Street and an underground tunnel. Schedules
1 and 2 show the details of the proposal. Full size
drawings are available for review in the Planning,
Building and Development Department.
Both Parcels are designated Tourist Commercial in the
Official Plan and are located in an area where mid-rise
buildings (up to 12 storeys in height) may be considered. The applicant is requesting site specific policies which
will permit two buildings with heights up to 60 and 61 storeys respectively in exchange for the contribution of
capital facilities to the City.
The majority of Parcel 2 is zoned Tourist Commercial (TC) with site specific provisions permitting a hotel with
a height of 7 storeys. The balance of Parcel 2 and Parcel 1 are zoned the standard TC zone. A minor variance
permits a building height of 19.5 metres on Parcel 1. The applicant has requested site specific TC zones for each
parcel, to implement the project as proposed. The requested zoning includes the establishment of site specific
parking standards, the use of tandem parking and parking stackers to provide a portion of the required parking,
the provision of a portion of the required parking for Parcel 1 on Parcel 2, and a reduction in the number of
required loading spaces.

Patience, those projects will take time. They are not going anywhere, trust me on that. Just office proposals, will be a bit challenging in Toronto right now, considering we have 4.5 million square feet of space under construction right now, with the threat of another million beginning construction in the near future, with 100 Adelaide looking ready to get set with work.

the neat part is that this tower is so tall that the top floors non-falls facing hotel rooms will still not have that bad of a view. they should be able to see the Toronto skyline! (allllll the way across lake Ontario)

also, is there any news on the Herald square proposal?

Those Niagara Falls proposals look really good. Much better than the craptastic Hilton that was just built. I need to see a better rendering but I would put these towers on par or even above the best Toronto towers u/c at this time.

Now the question is which Hotel needs this much space...

Niagara Falls is going to become a mini Gold Coast-Surfer's Paradise of Canada if these two towers are built.
