From the Sept 18 2009 Winnipeg Free Press

The property eventually fell into the hands of CentreVenture, the city’s downtown development agency, who in 2001 sold it to Peter Ginakes, a partner in the Pony Corral Restaurant chain, and Bob Harris of Harris Transport, for
$150,000. The city bought back the station back in 2004 for $ 750,000, minus a large piece of historical pumping machinery the former owners removed and donated to a heritage museum in Austin.

Un-F-in believable, aside from cities in Quebec is there a more — backwards city in Canada, Katz and his cohorts on council truly are inept.

This one may not be Sam Katz's doing.

He was elected mayor near the end of June 2004. The works were probably set in motion to get the building back when Glen Murry was still mayor in start of 2004

Why, oh why, did someone not think of creating some kind of museum with this building ages ago? Do a whole exhibit on flood protection measures, duff's ditch, the big floods, complete with photo exhibits. It really could be a "point of interest" (maybe even a tourist attraction) for the area. But the machinery needs to be complete...

Developers hungry for heritage projects

By: Murray McNeill

"Mark and Rick Hofer are gluttons for punishment.

Fresh off what they say was the most challenging and stressful project of their careers -- the redevelopment of the derelict Avenue and Hample buildings on Portage Avenue -- the two brothers are eager to tackle another heritage project.

So eager, in fact, they've joined forces with Winnipegger Keith Merkel to launch a new integrated real estate development company -- EdgeCorp Group -- that will enable them to tackle two new projects a year. It could include one downtown heritage-redevelopment project and one suburban new-build project."

The City of Winnipeg is poised to approve the construction of a retail store on land targeted for a Target on the Canad Inns Stadium site at Polo Park.

On Wednesday, the city's board of adjustment will consider a pair of requests to allow the construction of a 170,000-square-foot retail store on the northwest quadrant of the 10.6-hectare stadium site, which the city intends to sell for $30.25 million to a partnership between Cadillac Fairview, which owns the nearby Polo Park mall, and Winnipeg developer Shindico.
