Despite all Waterfront Toronto's good intentions, the waterfront is already looking like a ghetto of blue/green glass lacking intimacy and alienating.

Not much we can do about the Blue-Glass, Green-Glass thing. Most of the world beating projects are that colour..

WTC, Burj Kalifa, London Shard...

What colour did you have in mind for our waterfront? Hot pink?

the Burj is silver, not blue or green.

and I think what he's implying is that it doesn't all have to be glass. Could involve some kind of stone or wood or... any kind of texture.

This looks to be the exact same colour combo as the 3 Waterclub condos in the right of the photo sissguy is complaining about.

I never said that all of Toronto's boom buildings are crap. Yes, L-Tower will obviously be a landmark tower and the Ritz by KPF is very nice. Also, there are many, many other new buildings in Toronto that I truly love, but mostly in the midrise range. The thing that I really dislike is the Cityplace part. It's unfortunate because it's located on the waterfront. It should have been a display a great architecture, and it's not.

The city that I criticize the most on this forum and others is Montreal, believe it or not. I love architecture and design. You don't get any improvement if you accept everything just because it's new and it's tall. I go visit friends in Toronto one or twice a year, I'm very much aware of all the great buildings you have. And none of them are on the waterfront. Can I say that without being call names ?

If I have to resort to name calling, then any argument I might make for/ or Against Southcore probably wouldn't be worth reading.

At the same time I would caution against making blanket statements on the area.

A few things. One, Cityplace is not on the waterfront, it is the land between the Gardiner and rail tracks that used to be derelict railway lands, then a golf course. Is that the base of the CN tower?? SWEET! I hope they are integrating it into the urban fabric better than how it was 5 years ago. It seemed a bit isolated. Love all of this work the city is doing especially the condo life. Most cities can only dream of having this many people living in the core. Get ready for some serious changes (good ones) to the street life. There will always be someone around and it will feel very safe and active.

It's going to be an affordable housing project for the City of Toronto.

No developer has yet stepped forward, or the City has not found a developer to take on the work as of yet.

I think a lot of people confuse the awful Pinnacle developments and the monotonous Waterclub towers with Cityplace. Lots of crap on the waterfront, but Cityplace itself ain't bad.

I've always find the average torontonian member to be far too critical of City Place. A neighborhood can take a decade or more before it starts maturing. I certainly won't expect Griffin town in Montreal to be anything more than a construction site and a bedroom community for the next 10 years.
