Work continues for the new interchange at Highway 7 and Highway 14/22nd Street. Starting on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at 6:00 a.m., Dalmeny Road will be closed between Highway 14/22nd Street and 33rd Street.

That was my exact thought too! I have a relative that lives a few blocks from the Childrens Hospital in Calgary and I was hoping for something more along those lines with a strong use of primary colours...even the signage on the side of a hill in Calgary has a 'children's feel' to it. Maybe the final design will show a bit more 'childs imagination'. Just glad to see this is going ahead (but should have been a part of City Hospital close to Kinsmen Play Village, re-designed Kinsmen park focusing on children/youth/families, and Childrens Discovery Museum in mendel building....but that is kicking a dead horse...

The report added as many as four additional office projects begin development within the next quarter pending approvals.

The four projects under way are:

450 Second Avenue North (The Nexus) is in the final stages of construction. When the 33,000 square foot structure is complete in the next quarter, it will be home to Golder Associates and Mid-West Developments.

475 Second Avenue South (River Centre) is expected to be finished construction in the third quarter of 2012. The 78,000 square-foot Class A office building is 90 per cent pre-leased, leaving only 8,600 square feet available.

The 15 23rd Street East building will add 57,800 square feet to the former warehouse district. The project is lead by Jaspar & Associates who will relocate their offices to the top floor upon completion.

220 Wall Street East Developers broke ground in March 2012 on a 50,000 square foot Class A building. Round Table Management expects to complete this project in summer 2013.

Proposed projects include: 200 Spadina Crescent E. (a River Landing project redesigned to accommodate a 27-storey residential tower, 17-storey office building and a 15-storey hotel); 375 Second Avenue S. Tonko Realty is marketing Phase II of the River Centre, a 177,000 square foot project; 275 Second Avenue S. In April 2012, Dundee Realty purchased 1.14-acres of land on the corner of Second Avenue South and 20th Street East which included a 399-stall parkade. In the future, the lot may be developed into an office tower, however, nothing has been confirmed to date.

Target bringing big changes to Mall at Lawson Heights

The American retailer is expected to open its doors next summer

Changes are coming at the Mall at Lawson Heights as Target has announced it will open its doors there next summer.

The huge American retailer announced today it will be moving into that mall and the Centre at 8th street in the summer of 2013.

The Zellers store, which currently occupies the space of the new Lawson Heights Target, will move out in October.

“(Target) will be making the store bigger, it will be going little to the south and quite a bit to the west and that’s why they’ll be closed for approximately eight to nine months,” said Betty Gibbon, general manager of the Mall at Lawson Heights.

Gibbon said the mall also has plans for a shiny new look to go along with the new store.

I have a question for anyone who is old enough to remember Penguin Village (It was a huge waterslide park in Saskatoon. I was 8 when it closed, but I don't remember much about it)... Where the heck was it located?

I never went to it, and I would have been around the same age as you when it closed but I recall seeing it when I came to visit my Grandparents and I am pretty sure it was located just East of Mckercher and North of Highway 5. Where a personal storage business is now.

It originally started out as Penguin Park, and later was renamed to Penguin Village under a second ownership group. In November of 1993, the tubing was shipped to Witchita, Kansas where it was installed at Barnacle Bill's FantaSea.

The park was up in the north end of town, east of Idylwyld, although I can't remember the exact location. I think it was up near where Wholesale Sports is today. I used to love going there, the tube slide was awesome! Wasn't old enough (or brave enough) to tackle the screamer though!

It was probably bleeding money because of our relatively short summers. But, wouldn't it be cool if Saskatoon had an indoor waterslide park?

Also, thumbs up for the Saskatchewan Storm ad. Now that's something I remember.

Really by Idylwyld? I must be confusing my child hood drives to Regina with Saskatoon.

Ah yes penguin park. Yeff is correct I also remember it being located up in the north end roughly in that area. Would be neat to see a slide waterpark like North Battlefords, but more modern and updated, built somewhere along the river. I have never been, only seen it driving on my way to Edmonton a few times...Could maybe have it as a toboggan park or something in the winter as well to use it year round?

I agree. I wouldn't want anything like the Alberta Children's Hospital (which is a nice building in its own right and setting) sitting prominently on our riverbank.
But some more toned down colour blocking would be pretty cool. Overall I'm pleased.

Penguin Park was a blast! And yes, it was definitely on Idlwyld, and was incredibly windy at the top of the slides.

Does anyone remember some of the old proposals for the AL Cole site? I remember talk of an indoor waterpark (domed) back in the 80's that was supposed to be the same size as the park in West Ed, and also a proposal for a river center/aquarium modeled after a facility in Tennessee. But it terms of making south downtown a people place, I'm pleased with the current plans and look forward to seeing how the AL Cole site fills in.

It was actually located north of the Quality Inn where Fronteir Peterbuilt is now.

The waterslides at North Battleford have also been gone for some time. I think the last outdoor waterslide park in the province was the small one in east Regina, which closed about 10 years ago.

This past few days Perimeter road has been closed off as it gets ripped up to make way for the new roadway that connects innovation place with the university.

When it is all done it looks like a definite improvement. The old layout was very car centric with almost no sidewalks or walkways connecting the two campuses.

The only thing that is odd about is the use of roundabouts. The wast management building, light source, regularly get large trucks picking up loads or delivering liquid nitrogen etc.
