Seems as though Massey Tower is well over 70% sold.

This is good news, I wonder how sales are going at 88 Scott....

Word from UT is that Karma will begin construction within the next couple of months. This is a pretty substantial project that has flown a little under the radar. At 164 metres, if it were already completed today, it would be the second tallest tower north of Queen Street, after the Four Seasons. Of course, by the time it's actually completed, it will be the fifth tallest north of Queen, after the Four Seasons, Aura, One Bloor and U Condos II.

Is that retail in the base of Karma? That street is lifeless so hopefully this building will give it a big shot in the arm.

It is. Also, that old house on the left side of the image is currently sitting on the right side of the lot, but will be moved over and converted into retail space.

You can't tell from the rendering, but the mechanical roof of the tower is a flat cylinder (surrounded by the tower's fins). It almost looks as though someone placed a giant white hockey puck on top of the Four Seasons. Apparently it will illuminate.

You can always count on Clewes to give you solid modernist architecture that uses good materials and pays attention to details, but by God it can it ever be bland.

Good news! Karma is one of my favorite project in Toronto right now. It's sleek and simple. Beats a tower with balconies popping up randomly any day of the week.

Total agreement. I'm from Vancouver, where, as you know, there are tight height limits. This is often compensated for by something with funny shapes, or awkward "boxiness."

Back in Vancouver they agonize over what they call "supertalls." Loss of the mountain view is a crime against nature and humanity. Nevertheless .... they talk about one day erecting (what are for Vancouver) "supertalls", hahahaha and yes I come from there .

§
Anyway, back to topic: this building, or one like it, would make a great "supertall" in Vancouver. I really go for it.

It's a side street behind a major arterial. It will never be a happening place. However, I'm curious what will happen to the coroners complex after they move to Downsview early next year.

Actually I found out its a small building on the same street as the condo above.

But I wonder, the George Drew Building (25 Grosvenor Street) i.e. the 20 or story office building right beside it also seems to be used for a similar purpose.

I wonder what will happen to the building ?

It's flown under the radar because there's literally nothing special about it in any way.

This building is the coroner's office. It's where the hearses and cars end up after travelling on the Highway of Heroes.

The small building, the tower, and the parking garage. I'm sure the tower will be re-purposed but I have high hopes the parking garage gets redeveloped.

Agreed. Gimme something like 43 Gerrard any day, protruding balconies and all. This is quite likely my favorite project in Toronto right now

Good news. We're finally starting to see retail overflow onto the the side streets off Yonge. Dundas between Yonge and Bay is the furthest along that road.

Quite frankly, I'm more excited about the retail component as it's on a side street than I am excited about the building. It's inevitable that we'll see a great deal more 'just off Yonge' retail. The illuminating 'puck' sounds interesting, but you're right about Clewes. He does bland like no other.

I don't know about more retail off Yonge being inevitable. Too much retail is being built as is.

The picture posted above actually isn't correct, its the tower it self. There is a building behind it, 2 stories, it goes all the way back to the next street. That's the actual corners complex. The building houses adminstrative staff, I think some not all are moving.

I found a random tender (dated 2012) online for fixing up 8 floors of the office building (i.e. modernizing).

If you're going to get technical than I referred to it as complex as Coroners court includes more than one building. There are offices in the tower but, also a massive laboratory separated by the mechanical floor (exterior view). The lab will be moving to the new Forensics building up in Downsview

Found the tender which no surprise is for the reuse of the tower however, it also indicates separating the structure from the garage and Coroners building which is what I was hoping for.

If this is the case then I assume the Highway of Heroes will no longer go through to the downtown, and will continue along the 401 west?

Canada's 50 tallest proposals diagram: http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?searchID=55335691

We need some more illustrators from out west to fill in some of the gaps...

Or you could just quit your day job and start rendering full time for SSP.
