While it is certainly disappointing that this building won't be adding any height to the neighbourhood; to be fair, if it is anything like Chateau Mapleton, it should turn out to be a reasonably decent building. We could certainly be doing worse.

Vinyl siding needs to be banished downtown and we need added height in the downtown desperately. What happens outside the core I am somewhat less concerned about.
There have been very few vinyl clad buildings going up around town lately...I'm guessing the city is strongly discouraging it.

Moncton strip club will never reopen: owner

A well-known Moncton strip club has closed, and the owner says it will never again be used for adult entertainment.

It was located across the street from Moncton High School, and there have been many attempts by residents and members of city council to shut down the Night Palace.

To recoup some expenses as he plans what to do with the vacant business, Speranza says he'll use the space to host youth and adult dances.

Sparanza recently bought the building adjacent to the strip club and his restaurant and said he's considering giving the corner a facelift by putting in a residential and commercial complex.

Didn't see it posted here. Didn't we hear a while back that Sparanza was also buying Adrienne's Cycle? Good to hear regardless!

I was the one who mentioned Sandro had already bought the Adrian's building. I spoke to him last night and the building will remain standing for at least 1 more year. Giving the former owner time to move all of the inventory out.

My impression of what he indicated to me, no final decision yet on what is to become of this corner piece of land. However, cleaning up this corner is his vision. Residential, retail leasing, who knows!

Historic Moncton castle sold

Castle Manor has sat vacant for more than a year
CBC News Posted: Jun 22, 2012 6:25 AM AT Last Updated: Jun 22, 2012 7:39 AM AT

Castle Manor in Moncton has been an orphanage, a Catholic school and a seniors home, but its new owner isn't revealing his plans for the historic building. (CBC)

“I've dreamt of owning it since I was a teenager. And now I'm in a position to make it real,” said local homebuilder Mathieu Fournier, who bought the castle and adjacent green space last week.

Fournier isn't revealing what his plans are for the heritage building, but a Toronto-based developer says she’s already trying to raise the money to buy it from him.

Excellent news. I like the Toronto developers idea of a boutique hotel. It would be interesting to know what the local developer had originally had in mind for this property....

Nobody knows, except the Aquillinis themselves and perhaps a select few others.

Speculation is rampant however, especially with Highfield Square across the street now the preferred site for the events centre. The Aquillinis have a tremendous track record with commercial and residential developments, including hotels. Since they own the Vancouver Canucks and the Rogers Arena, it's only natural to speculate that whatever they build on the block will be integrated with the events centre.

Some people wonder that the Aquillinis themselves might build the events centre and lease it back to the city.

All speculation of course......

The Tepenyaki Grill on Main St is now open. The place looked absolutely packed (looking in through the window).

I'm unlikely to be eating there anytime in the next month. If anyone goes, I would appreciate a review of the service, ambience and food.

Hey MonctonRad,

I went to Osaka Hibachi yesterday... Let me say it was packed! We arrived at around 7pm and left at around 8:30 - and there was always a line-up at the door.

The restaurant itself is totally amazing, I really did not expect something that nice. The atmosphere is one of the best among restaurants in Moncton for sure. The owners sure invested lots of money in that project. One thing you have to know is that the restaurant is divided in 2 sections; the "normal" side and the Teppenyaki side where the chefs does a "show" while cooking your food - right in front of you. However, we did not go to the Teppenyaki side as it was full for the night (you really do need a reservation for the Teppenyaki). But I did take a peak ). We could hear from our side customers applauding the chefs and the sounds of the knives - sounds really impressive and next time I go I will make sure I get a table on the Teppenyaki side.

As for the food, they have sushis which appeared to be very popular among customers. The also had various traditional Japanese dishes. I took the Teriyaki Beef. It was excellent. The beef was very tender. They also serve the dishes the traditional Japanese way, which means: The main dish, a green salad, steamed rice, a Miso soup and another small dish that I don't know the name - all at the same time.

So, overall, it's a very good and must-go restaurant. The ambiance, food, and service are all pretty much perfect. It made my list of my favorite restaurants in Moncton.

I think this is big for the restaurant scene in Moncton. - Now I've got to try the new Mediterranean fusion restaurant on Weldon called Sirocco. Anyone been there?

Thanks for the review. I'll be sure to try Osaka Hibachi as soon as I can.

Scirrocco also sounds quite interesting!

I must admit that Moncton has developed quite an eclectic downtown restaurant scene! It's all good.

Someone here mentioned a possible strip mall, but not sure if this has been confirmed.

Possibly, but my guess is that it will be a standalone Subway. The Subway in the Northwest Centre will have to decamp when they renovate for the expanded Target store.....

They are beginning to tear down Blondie's Bar (near NBCC). A new apartment building is slated to be built there.

Is that the one that used to be a church then discount furniture store then bar? If so, I can't say I disapprove... it was pretty divey looking...

IIRC, Church -> sports bar -> swingers club -> flea market -> furniture store -> bar
