I think construction of the office tower at River Landing is just a matter of time. But that's a different ball game than the Condo Tower.
I just plain don't the market is strong enough for it. Globe and Mail article predicts a 15 percent correction in the housing market in Toronto and Vancouver.... and eventually, our housing market in Saskatchewan will feel the effects. I believe a previous post on this thread was correct. Why purchase a prestine condo downtown for 200k, 300k, 400k or 500k, when you can get a nice house, with more space in a well maintained suburb for the same price?? People buy downtown for two reasons: 1) They like living downtown, along the river and near markets. 2) To avoid long commutes from the suburbs. Problem is Saskatoon's commute time is MAXIMUM 20 minutes. In Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, and even Winnipeg, it makes sense to live downtown to avoid commute times, and intense traffic congestion. The only advantage to buying down town in Saskatoon is..... well... because some people like living along the river downtown. And I think that is an expensive proposition that not many people in Saskatoon can afford to make.
I'm calling this right now. Construction on the (I believe it's 18 story) office tower will begin sometime in the next 12 months. Work doesn't begin on the 27-28 story condo tower for atleast 6-9 years. And probably more. The market is too volatile and the city isn't big enough.....
I have to disagree. Even with light traffic there are commutes greater than 20 minutes. Add traffic and it gets much worse.
EDIT: I do believe you can commute from almost anywhere in Saskatoon to the downtown in close 20 minutes.

I agree commutes downtown are pretty good from anywhere in the city. Commutes to places like the North Industrial area are a problem due to congestion on circle drive bridge and the extra distance from suburbs that are the opposite end of the city.
Since the layout of the city is optimized to have commutes to/from downtown that is good for the downtown since it encourages offices etc. to develop downtown instead of the North Industrial area. Sounds like it is also bad for the downtown since it lessens the desire of as many to live downtown.
Mayor Don Atchison has set a target date of September 2016 for the completion of the north commuter bridge.
"If we don't set a goal or a time frame, it will probably drag on forever," Atchison said Thursday.
"It's imperative that we have this bridge. We just have to get moving on it. The idea of sitting and saying we'll sit there and study it - well, how much longer is it going to take? You need to create some type of urgency."
The commuter bridge project, announced three months ago, would connect the rapidly growing northeast corner of the city with the north industrial area on the west side of the South Saskatchewan River at Marquis Drive north of the Silverwood Golf Course. The bridge is estimated at $50 million to $75 million without factoring in the connecting roadway network.
Atchison said his promised target on the commuter bridge is not part of his re-election bid in October. But the project will likely form a piece of his platform, which is sure to focus on managing and maintaining the city's growth. His opponents are targeting city finances and contrasting civic spending on big-ticket projects with the state of existing roads and alleys.
Atchison said plans in the northeast sector - called Holmwood - could see an extra 75,000 people in up to nine new neighbourhoods in addition to Evergreen, which is underway and will house more than 12,000 people.
There are already traffic snarls on Attridge Drive, Central Avenue and Circle Drive northbound at rush hour as workers head to the north industrial area, the largest employment hub in the city.
"How are you going to move people?" Atchison said. "As more people are moving into our community, we've just got to have another bridge crossing. It's imperative that we have it."
Atchison said the $30-million Traffic Bridge and the north commuter bridge could be combined into one project for the private sector to bid on. The Traffic Bridge was shut down two years ago and the replacement bridge has no funding in place.
River Landing Village is heading to the Municipal Planning Commission (MPC) on Tuesday, June 19, meaning it will hit City Council for final approval on July 18. After that, a development permit!

A few things of note:
- Building A is now described as a 15 storey hotel AND residential
- A third Gathercole Arch will be installed across Spadina to help creat a physical and visual connection from the plaza to the riverbank
- The one rendering also shows the completed Remai AGS - our first glimpse of what the completed River Landing riverfront will look like!

Excellent observations, Echoes. I would also add that the hotel used to be 10 stories and is now 15 stories. (Perhaps because the decision was made to add a residential component to that tower, which is pretty cool.) The overall new design of RLV is, in my opinion, very impressive, and will look spectacular on the riverbank as you walk across the Broadway Bridge from the Broadway District towards downtown. Love it! Build it!

It is interesting to note that building A is hotel and residential. Since Cavalier Enterprises are building the hotel, they appear to be following the same plan when they built the Cavalier on Spadina Cres. The north part of the building had 37 rental apartments and today is The James Hotel. I am assuming that the residential element will be rentals and provide a steady income stream.

Story about the new Winnipeg Police station, but relevant to Toontown as, at one time, there had also been talk here about the Police Services keeping their existing space and moving into the Canada Post building for additional space. It appears that Delmar Gallery on 8th has framed its last picture. There is a huge blue bin out front and the place is gutted. A note from a customer on the door holding an $80.00 gift certificate has likely left more than her a little upset. The owner just painted and reno'd the space not that long ago!!
Anyone have anything on the building rising from the ground on 8th & Louise? I had heard it's a stip mall. Any tenant information from anyone? Also, walked by Zellers in Market Mall yesterday and it is empty and closed!!

Sorry, no idea who's building the development on the NE corner of 8th and Louise, but I'm delighted to see the activity!!! If only we could get similar development happening on that eyesore of an empty lot across 8th from it.
This movement gives me hope for movement soon on the other two ex-gas station lots on the east side: 8th & Arlington, and Preston & Louse, not to mention the mess at 20th & H. Here's to the future!
I'm beginning to wonder if Atch will come around to appease some others in Saskatoon after having squeezed hard to push through with the CD South bridge, AGS, and River Landing....
Nasser's proposal looks fantastic! I did prefer the curve in the condo from Lobsinger but I do prefer the height over the curve! I'm slightly concerned about the public space and how it does not actually seem to be inviting for users. Perhaps it will become an awesome lunch spot? I think the completed south downtown is marvelous! I sure hope that the city is still planning on pursuing a collection of condos on the western side of the Senator sid Bucky bridge as outlined in the orignial RL plan. This would anchor the south downtown beautifully and further reinforce and accelerate the gentrification of riversdale.
