maybe things have changed....this project on provencher chased pretty much the exact same market niche for years with zero luck.

I was down at the Hydro Building today for a meeting and walked by the Met. It looks really good. Viking, what does the finished addition look like?

In the "neat" category, i saw a Google Streetview car at the light at Portage and Donald. That camera thingy on the roof is strange looking.

^i'm still deciding whether or not I admit to having anything to do with the exterior of the addition......the inside of the old theatre is looking pretty nice though.

....eh, don't forget how that theater just sat for years. I'm sure us regular joes will think it looks great. An excellent edition to the downtown revitalization of Winnipeg.........and killing a surface lot (no matter how small).

Oh sweet, this is pretty cool news. this got buried in the last page!

And I agree regarding new office space. new tall towers are going to be residential in this city until there is new office demand. And that is plausible given the exceptionally low vacancy rate in this city relative to other "main" citys in the country.

hotels will be the other "hope" for new tall structures, as will some sort of office consolidation (which doesn't seem likely)

that is, for those who are interested in taller buildings popping up in Winnipeg.

I'm personally currently fine with the projects we have right now, and am more excited about the developments in the Exchange and turning that area around. I can't believe how different it is today from even 10 years ago.

I thought 226 Osborne was mostly a residential project? Maybe there's commercial on the lower levels. I thought it was a great site for residential with great views and access to memorial park. Not sure why the owner hasn't gone ahead. Waiting for 95% presales I guess?

I'm fairly sure the project hasn't ever gotten to the point of accepting pre-sales.

2) Hotel in Headingley? Saw a 4-5 floor hotel being constructed, good progress

This is the new Best Western to join the new Motel 6 further down the road. There is talks for another hotel in the Westport development as well. On a further note I stayed in the new Best Western that just opened in Thompson last week. Very nice option for the city and basically has taken the title of nicest away from the Days Inn.

Sounds like a perfect spot for Canalta to set up shop.

Agreed, although transit service would be non-existent. Maybe walking along the shoulder to Unicity would work...

Canalta in Headingley, I wouldnt mind. Forks though, different story...

Guess Headingley is going to grow like crazy!

was just in downtown vancouver and they have the new telus headquarters plastered all over as the first "platinum LEED office tower in canada". let's correct them!
