I think it's been going for a month or two now. It's being spearheaded mostly by folks from the city at the moment. I got involved by going to the wrong meeting .

It's got a lot of potential, and the more folks we get involved, the better.

I'd definitely be interested in attending one of the meetings and seeing what the ideas are and who is involved. I'm assuming the next one is the bike ride at REI in late June?

Yeah, although there is still talk of a happy hour for June, which would be before. We'll know more by tomorrow, so keep an eye on the page (or I can let you know too).

It was parked on the south side of the pedestrian island, and there was a camera man doing a walkthrough.

Just whatever you do, don't admit this is where you first heard about it.

4:30PM on a Thursday? Typical government workers getting out early.

Ken, do we have to do the tour to get your thoughts on this, or will you explain a little bit more here since Westword's article doesn't delve into this at all?

Thanks!
It was nothing really. It was at the end of the tour and we were chatting about other transit news and how RTD may convert the Welton light rail line to street car, and then someone asked about a subway and I said something like how someday in the future if both the circulator and mall shuttle were at capacity we may have to look at a subway under 15th or 16th between Union Station and Civic Center.

Just a confused author. Another example of how dumb it is for RTD to not give us a solid branding name for their rail transit. Clearly, "the Ride" is the lamest brand in the history of brands, since no one calls it that. Therefore, we have probably a majority of people in Denver who think that all trains are "light rail", giving us people in the media saying stuff like "the light rail line under construction to the airport."

We'd be all better off if RTD just branded their entire suite of services as Metro.

There are so many different kinds of rail and subway and street car etc I thought I missed something. I knew it wasn't pure 'light rail' but thought there might be some sort of newfangled mode with the new 'commuter light rail' mode. Thanks!

The airport line will be the coal-fired electric multiple unit heavier-than-heavy commuter light rail Ride.

If somebody can come up with a clever Denver/Colorado-related acronym or other moniker for RTD that doesn't —, I am 99% certain it would stick, they'd be everyone's hero, and probably would make the history books too.

"Commuter light rail" is sort of a thing that exists. Nobody calls it that, but it is kind of a thing. We have one example in the US: The NJ RiverLine, between Trenton and Camden.

I'll dig up some pics in a few minutes.

NJ RiverLine

It's basically DMU that looks more like light rail than commuter rail. In Trenton and Camden it runs on-street like light rail (sometimes even in mixed traffic!), but in between it runs on active freight tracks.

So diesel power, on-street mixing with cars in cities, and on freight tracks mixing with freight trains between.

Thanks, Ken...was wondering if you knew about considerations in place for the future or if it was speculation.
