Another comment on the convention hotel. I would be happy with something that either becomes the new tallest for SLC even if just by a few feet, or something that reaches a similar height somewhere between Wells Fargo and Promontory. Those two along with COB aren't amazingly tall buildings but adding a fourth one to the skyline would do wonders.

I think I would like to see somthing a good 25% taller then the wells fargo building. somewhere in the 40 Story range. It would probably look weird to slap a 60-70 story building in the middle of our city but we don't get a new tallest building that often... I would like to push it more then a few feet at a time.

Iv been a bit busy lately. Has there been any official word on a location?

None of them are coming off as super strong to me. Maybe Pelli Clarke Pelli. I wished they would have kept Safdie in the running. And, it doesn't seem to suggest that these firms will also design the office tower as part of a connected intertwined building like I had hoped for. Maybe I'll do my own 3d design and post it on here.

I feel like someone a while back mentioned that they should install pianos in downtown Salt Lake ala 16th street mall in Denver (or something like that). I think I read that more pianos are sold in Utah than any other state, so there have got to be quite a few people who could successfully entertain people downtown by tinkling the ivory.

Construction has officially begun at the apartment complex next to the Biomat building on North Temple. There has been workers on site every day for the past week or so. This morning on my commute into town, I noticed that they had a concrete pumper laying down concrete.

I didn't realize that they had the location at 6th east. I actually drove by it yesterday afternoon and then felt a little silly for my post. But still, i'm glad that they are moving into the CBD.
I think the old Whole Foods location in that same area would be a good spot for Trader Joe's

The only way that Trader Joe's could sell wine or liquor would be through a change in the Utah Staw Law by the Legislature. We would definitely know if that change had been made.

I don't see the North Temple construction project taking until 2013. It looks like there is very little left to do. I would guess the trax line might need to be tested until 2013 before opening.. But i think most of the construction will be wrapped up by the end of july.. Or september at the latest

Trader Joe’s to open store in SLC

A popular chain of grocery stores plans to open its first Utah location later this year.
Trader Joe’s announced it has leased space at 634 E 400 S in Salt Lake City. The new store is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2012.
The store will be part of The Family Center at East Downtown. According to a press release from the company, “Trader Joe’s carries an extensive array of domestic and imported foods and beverages including fresh baked artisan breads, Arabica bean coffees, international frozen entrées, 100% juices, fresh crop nuts, deli items, and vitamins and supplements, as well as the basics, like milk and eggs.”
Trader Joe’s first Utah location will be approximately 12,700 square feet in size.

If you were wondering this would be located on the south side of 400 South between 600 East and 700 East and is not the old Whole Foods. I would assume it was the location that was vacated by Old Navy.

I got the following Tweet this morning from downtownslc #SLCFarmersMarket perssannouncement! Public Market to be open this winter.

I however haven't been able to find any additional information either on the Farmers Market or Downtown Alliance web pages or facebook pages.

I wonder if this meand they have made a decision on location, and that the lease has been signed. I am guessing if it is going to happen this winter that it is most likely going to be in the Rio Grande Depot. I love the idea of having it at the depot.

I do have some good news to share though it is extremely vague. The Tribune Building will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation. They are supposed to take out permits this week so it should clarify things at that point. It will have a residential component and it will have another component but I'm not quite sure what it is. I have heard a few things but they were all so vague that I won't even mention them. Whatever it turns out to be; it's good news to me.

That's great news. I'm glad that it'll be mixed use and not just one use.

Right. Chris Vanocur was saying on FB that it was located at 643 E 400 S, which would be the old Whole Foods, but FOX13 is reporting 634 E 400 S, which would be Old Navy.

I think the Old Navy location is weird and they ought to use the WF location, but whatever.
