Okay, I made up Obford but things sound better in threes.
The Euro tour continues. I know I said London was up next in my last thread, but I lied. I realized I had enough photos from my time in Oxford and Orford, England to make a small thread. I'd rather show these first and then get into my London set. If I was organized this should have been the first set I put together. I was in England in August of 2010, before
Norway, the
Netherlands,
Spain, and every other photo thread I've made.
Having never been to Oxford, I was impressed with the university and the town. The history and pomp can be a bit stuffy, however outside the core the city felt well planned and very livable. School was not in session so I was able to stay in one of the dorms at Queen's college. While the facade is ornate and impressive, inside it was just like any dorm room.
Orford is a very small town about 100 miles northeast of London. There really isn't much to see there other than on old damp caslte. I have a family friend who lives in the town so I thought I'd check it out. Lot's of farms and red brick buildings. The gravel beach on the North Sea was pretty cool, I'd never seen anything like it. I spent one more day in Blakeney, in northern Norfolk, but my camera was out of batteries so I didn't get any shots.
Oh, and there are a few shots of Kew Gardens, outside London. They felt like they belonged more in this thread than the one I have coming up.
Some tunes, they're an Aussie band but they are singing in English so close enough.

This was my dorm in Oxford... I think there might have been one other person staying in the the entire building. It felt very Home Alone-ish.
An old WWII bunker on the coast near Orford. Due to the location of the town being near the channel, there are old defense bunkers that were built to ward off foreign invaders from Napoleon to Hitler.
Beyond the farms is the North Sea.
Having learned about both Boyle's and Hooke's law in school I thought it was interesting to see where they once lived.
Allegedly these rocks were imported from Norway to stop erosion of the coast. I guess England is fresh out of boulders.
One of the old greenhouses at Kew.
Typical British weather.
The town of Orford.
London is next, I promise. That's also the end of my backlogged images, should be chronologically fresh from here on out.
