Figuring the price tag may be a little on the high side. We'll see when bids come in.

Almost guaranteed this one is going to bid packages, so they can control how much gets built or cut (IE.. community rink will be the first casualty I am sure)
Not if its a practice rink.

^^ Sounds like it's not being funded through the $450 mil allocated to the project. Add to that, looks like the budgets are going to be really tight already. My bet, practice/ community rink = gone.

When Katz bought the Oilers, he said he would be building a practice facility for the Oilers... Is that not the community rink? If so I think Katz is paying for that (just my guess at this point)

Community rink is 21 mil. Unfunded but going for 7 mil per order and being designed.

Jesus images are encouraging.

I like how the north edge was treated.... was worried that it would just wall off north of 105ave, but it looks like they have adressed that pretty well.

No kidding. It would be a shame if this gets cut back in any way.

Make or break moment for the city of Edmonton. Love everything about this design... it's phenomenal!

I'm curious about the material choice for the street and plaza. Ideally, it would be granite, but I doubt that's feasible here. The pattern and color is nice, but I worry that if it's concrete or a similar material, its durability in our climate would be questionable, and could adversely affect the look after years of abuse, both by pedestrian and car traffic as well as the weather.

I often think of the decorative "stone" crossings along Jasper Avenue and how they have deteriorated and I would hate to see that happen here.

Speaking of materials, the building is clad in zinc, sorta like the AGA. (not the curvy pieces)

This is what I was thinking as well. Hopefully they will work to ensure that it has some aesthetic longevity.
