Interesting news regarding Concord Pacific.

Concord Pacific has made an enquiry to the City for a possible redevelopment of the Marine Gardens site. Prior to making an application, the City of Vancouver wants to hear ideas from the community about future redevelopment of the site.
Come to an information session to learn about the site, existing and emerging policy, and the rezoning process. It is also a chance to offer your ideas, which will help shape the development, and find how you can stay involved in it. The input you provide will be considered throughout the process.

Forgive me if this has been posted, but a small update from Gary Mason's May 2012 article Vancouver Magazine on the Squamish proposal near the Molson Brewery

The Kitsilano project is much further along. There are firm plans to build two apartment towers on land adjacent to the Molson Brewery on Burrard Street. The Squamish reclaimed the land thanks to a B.C. Court of Appeal decision in 2002 that ordered CP to return it to the band. The Squamish also got more than $90 million for property it couldn’t reclaim.

“Our village was originally 80 acres,” Jacob says. “Now we have 8.6 acres. We were told no judge in the country was going to displace corporate interests or white interests for our benefit. So this was the only bit of land left that wasn’t built on.”

Kazian Architects has designed the towers, which should be built in the next two years. Two companies will partner with the band to develop the site. When the first tower is fully rented, the band plans to sell it to a real-estate trust. The Squamish will use the proceeds to build the second rental tower on their own. “We’ll bring in a company to manage the place for us,” Jacob says. “We’re going to call it the Squamish ATM. We’re going to swipe our card every month and pull out all the revenue.”

i think it's fantastic news that we'll get development at that end of the bridge, good to see that it'll go to a good place, taking folks out of poverty and want. one hopes that we see the vanier park path extended along the water to granville island, and that light rail ends up there eventually too.

I guess construction will be starting soon if they expect to have the towers built in the next two years, been hearing about the idea/plans for a while finally seems like it is going to start

would be amazing if they could build some sort of arch or massive monument as a part of the redevelopment, something that would mark the place in a dramatic way, as opposed to simply building the area out.

i think 2 years is pretty reasonable for that building, considering they're not bound by the city permitting or planning process. i mean, that's 15-20 months zapped right there, pretty much just the time it takes to get financing (which seems already to be in place) and contracts out. pure joy for anyone who hates land use restrictions or nimbys, if they're going beautiful, i hope they go massive.

I don't see any provisions for streetcar in those photos.

I do find it interesting that the new buildings west of the Burrard Bridge seem to be built on the ROW of the old BCER Kitsilano line.

Is one of the buildings beside the Molson brewery cantilevered over Burrard?

Lots of interesting ideas. I wonder how many will actually come to fruition?

The one idea I find interesting is the green space on the roof of the mall. The roof-top parking lot is huge and could be converted into a large urban park and plaza. Since the roof is strong enough for vehicles, it would be able to support some larger trees and give a truly park like atmosphere. Maybe even have some outdoor events.

Ah, it's probly a pipe dream... we'll see.
