Wow! Again!
Given than inward urbanisation is utilised in most major cities, Calgary's skyline looks fairly typical for a city its size. Though an impressive skyline it is, clearly, a couple other Canadian cities have established more downtown mass, and are the standards to beat in order to look the biggest -- if this is important to you.

Me neither - especially considering Canada only has 2 other cities the same size as Calgary.

And I'm sure you can show some examples of said similar sized cities with similar skylines.

I agree with all the above comments..Calgary's sky-line is the most impressive I seen for a city of that size...Having never been there, is it because the Urban planners were on the ball from the start, and they really focused on density down- town starting in the 1950's?..Take a city like Montreal, where the buidings are spread out..Imagine if they were more concentrated?

Calgary is such an anomaly. It's like Dubai, 12 seconds after take-off there is nothing. I'm rooting for Calgary, but it has a long way to go to show some substance. When Vancouver was even smaller than Calgary, we built one of the greatest neighborhoods in the country, and it was the West End. Not sure if Calgary can duplicate.

Well, hooray for Vancouver.

In any event, I don't think that Calgary will ever duplicate Vancouver's West End (or Kitsilano) simply because there is an alarming shortage of beaches in southern Alberta. However, I do think that there are some strong, interesting neighborhoods (Beltline, Hillhurst/Sunnyside, Bridgeland, Bankview, Inglewood, etc.) starting to develop now, and I think the City is taking steps to encourage that process to continue.

Jezz, think they put enough aircraft warning lights on the Pinnacle center buildings?

CityPlace is like it as well. I think it has a lot more to do with helicopter traffic around the area. Also remember whoever took that had a slow shutter speed on making it look like all those lights are on at the same time.

i'm not sure i understand what you are getting at here - if there was more after take off it would only indicate more sprawl - if you were flying west then a lot of that "nothing" is the foothills and the eastern slopes of the rocky mountains. i guess you can call that nothing.

i would prefer the neighborhoods here develop organically over time rather than try and straight out duplicate anything.

and as far as city building goes, there is a lot of work to be done here no doubt - but that is exactly what makes it so appealing to me.
