Yep. It has been deemed that dual messengers required for all new LRT builds. The current system will either have a second messenger installed or a substation added in to meet their requirements.

Also, there are no high-speed isolators on the west line. Because of this, you'll notice many wires above the crossovers.

I totally agree, funny that the south elevation is so much sleeker.

Some photos of the initial LRV testing over the weekend. LRV 2252 has been decked out in a new livery for the occasion:

Both it and 2033 were parked on the new 11th Street storage track. Not sure if they ventured any further than that. See more pics here.

They were just moved (pushed) to 11th Street tailtrack. If all goes well, testing under power starts tomorrow after 8:00am.

Yes, they have done a great job with Westbrook other than the TOD on-site building. I like the skylights. It will be interesting if and when the subway goes in downtown what the stations will look like. Will they be bland like Edmonton of imaginative like Montreal.

Any particular reason why CT is using an SD160 for the test phase when a U2 beater could have done the job???

There must be a good reason. Comming from an Aviation guy, you would use ther brand new aircraft for test purposes, you would use the beat up old maintenance spare unless there was a particular feature of the new airplane that was required.

Cage, they have both vehicle types (U2 and SD160) for testing purposes on the WLRT siding. They most likely had the newer train out today for show due to all the media being around.

They will no doubt be testing both train types due to their slightly different characteristics (U2s are DC traction, SD 160 are AC traction).

The best reason for having the SD160 is that each one of the vehicle types has a different 'dynamic envelope'. For clearance testing, they need one of each type of vehicle, with the SD160 being the biggest form factor, so it's probably the best to start with.

When the LRVs that will get ordered this year (hopefully) for the ability to run 4 car trains start arriving, we will have 5 types of cars, essentially all incompatible with one another. They will also very likely not be made by Siemens.

Is there any long term plan to consolidate to one or two types?
